About this listen
A city united in grief. A journalist ready to kill to keep his secrets. A copper capable of darker deeds than murderers. An unworldly detective fighting to save an innocent man.
Newly appointed DS McAvoy is an outsider to his new force and must confront his darkest fears, while hunting a killer that nobody else believes in. In a landscape at once tender and brutal, McAvoy must tread the path between the darkness and the light, before facing an enemy who will brand him for life.
David Mark spent more than fifteen years as a journalist, including seven years as a crime reporter with the "Yorkshire Post". His writing is heavily influenced by the court cases he covered: the defeatist and jaded police officers; the competent and incompetent investigators; the inertia of the justice system and the sheer raw grief of those touched by savagery and tragedy. He is the author of the "Sunday Times" bestselling DS McAvoy series, historical novels, and psychological suspense thrillers, also writing under the name D.M. Mark.

Lewis in the courtroom is not only extra fine and extra controversial and parochial - the narration by Toby was un-real. I had to re play it twice it was so fantastic. Suddenly Toby goes into Lewis' voice - priceless and scary. cry cry cry. I don't even stand on spiders.
So much is good, brutal. Where does it come from? So much depth and emotional connection to the killers and doomed. Understanding evening.
A brilliant idea to go back over the beginning of DCI Roper and Mcavoy. Totally valid. Selfishly I wish this had come a lot sooner - but I understand it probably came after the books got going. I wonder how many words David Mark writes a day.
Im so blown away and stunned by such genius made available to me. I include Toby L in this too of course who voices SO many character's and uses such tiny subtle changes. .
I missed Pharaoh and all the other leads but the story was strong with the leader being someone new. Its a stream of inner thinking, a monologue that skips between first second and third person. I loved it. I admire it. Kill for it.
Master Class in terror, brutally and love
