About this listen
Jeremiah sits on his bicycle and stares down at the small, flattened body of a dead frog. At just six-years-old he suffers a painful realization: In this existence you are either The Squasher, or The Squashed.
Raised as a Jehovah’s Witness, Jeremiah also knows he must be obedient and devout—or risk banishment. But the boy refuses to be another frog under God’s wheel. At first his acts of rebellion are small and inconsequential, but soon his schemes take on a wilder, grander scale and he finds himself being hunted by the police.
Through mad goose chases, natural disaster, homelessness, and maximum-security prison, Jeremiah struggles against the world, always wriggling one step ahead of the giant wheel bearing down on him. But when a shocking accident leaves him half dead and disfigured, the young man has nowhere left to run. Either he breaks free of the hate, hurt, and rage that’s fueled his every action, or becomes another one of life’s hapless victims.
Dead Frogs is a riveting true story about growing up in broken systems, the incredible resilience of the human spirit, and the power of forgiveness and redemption.

I learned a little about Jehova Witness
"Dead Frogs" by Jeremiah Simmons is a raw and gripping memoir that delves into the author's tumultuous journey from a young boy's realization of life's harsh realities to a quest for freedom and redemption. The narrative begins with a poignant scene of a young Jeremiah confronting the lifeless body of a frog, a metaphor for the stark choice he sees in life—either to be the squasher or the squashed.
Growing up in a Jehovah's Witness household adds layers to Jeremiah's struggle, as he grapples with the pressure to conform while yearning for independence and authenticity. His acts of rebellion start small but escalate, leading to encounters with the police and a series of tumultuous events that test his resilience.
The memoir is a testament to the human spirit's capacity for endurance and transformation. Jeremiah's journey is marked by hardship, including homelessness and incarceration, but it is also a story of survival and ultimately, of hope. Through his experiences, he learns the power of forgiveness and redemption, and the importance of breaking free from cycles of hurt and anger.
Simmons' writing is vivid and immersive, drawing readers into his world and making them feel the intensity of his emotions. "Dead Frogs" is a compelling read that explores themes of identity, rebellion, and the search for meaning in a world that often seems unforgiving. It is a story of resilience and redemption that will resonate with readers long after they turn the final page.

Gritty Memoir of Broken Systems and Resilience
I liked this it was rraw and unflinching in parts as it told the story of a young man's turbulent journey from a restrictive religious upbringing to a rebellious search for freedom. Jeremiah's story delves into themes of defiance, societal constraints, and the consequences of his actions. The audiobook traces his experiences with homelessness, incarceration, and a disfiguring accident, highlighting his struggles and the resilience he develops along the way.
The narrative offers a unique perspective on the complexities of breaking free from oppressive systems. Jeremiah's eventual path toward forgiveness and redemption underscores the potential for transformation and growth, even after facing profound hardship. I was a very interesting listen.

Riveting
While some parts might leave you wanting to reach for a metaphorical lily pad to hide under, this book is a wake-up call in a lot of ways. It compels you to see these slimy sentinels as environmental indicators, their health a barometer for the well-being of our planet, and the story is so captivating. Highly recommend.

Throughout it all, we see themes of resilience and the power of forgiveness. The narrative is honest invites the listener to experience what he went through, which makes the author's struggles and ultimate redemption both inspiring and relatable. I liked how he was able to forgive which shows how transformative it can be and can offers hope to those who hold on their past pain.

Unfiltered
This is a raw, unfiltered, honest story about the author's incredible life experiences. Despite the warning at the beginning, I think it all happened. It's very much written in that The Bonfire of the Vanities style. If you like that, I think you will enjoy the book.

An incredible true story
Sometimes you don't realise what other people go through in their lives and this true story of Jeremiah (the author) who goes on a real rollercoaster journey through life. Rebelling against his religious upbringing as a Jehovah's witness, experiencing homelessness, prison and horrific burns, the story builds to the author realising he must change his ways. I would have liked to have heard more of what happened after he tries to go straight but there is so much in this man's story (even aliens!!) that I was gripped.
