Enjoyed it!

A book for listening to in car or when going for a run! The book has highs and lows, the pace is slow at times, but on the whole a worthwhile listen. A personal story of running and living with depression, for those reasons alone it’s interesting. Narration is fine, just American!

Simply wonderful

I can identify with so much and yet understand so little of what it must truly be like. Running, friendship and community. Wonderful lights for those dark days.

Inspiring

Depression Hates a Moving Target by Nita Sweeney.
4/5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

I started listening to this audiobook book when I was struggling with my own mental health again. I felt a lot a parallels with Nita and her depression.

It started off as quite a hard listen, though became inspiring as she managed to persevere through injury and depression. Not sure how she managed to run on days she was feeling so low, I don’t even want to get out of bed on those days. I could feel her determination throughout her journey.

Loved the honesty and realistic approach

A book about running from beginner to marathoner. Honest and real. No hype. I really enjoyed this and could relate to it as a novice runner myself.

Gave up after 2.5 hours of listening.

Up to that point, lacking in anything past basic common sense.

Awful narrator

Had to turn this off after about 10 minutes as couldn't concentrate on the story due to the awful narration.

Too depressing to finish

This is extremely depressing. I got be honest here I only managed 2h 40minutes of the audiobook (roughly 35,6% of the book) because it is all too much and I felt like having a drink to cope with how much of a downer this book is.
The author tells us all the many levels of severe mental health issues she has and had for most of her live. The many life shattering events that contributed or aggravated her fragile mental state and how running helped her.
I knew that in order to explain where she was at when she started running she would have to divulge details of her mental health, but I wasn't at all prepared how utterly depressing listening to it all was, and almost 3hs in things are just getting worse. I truly believe this could've been written in a little more positive way, as is I can't carry on and finish it.
The Narration is quite melancholy too, the voice alone makes me feel sad.

That narrator…

It is sad how a narrator Can ruin a book. It happens regularly and it happend with this one. I have really tried to force myself to listen but there is no joy in doing so. I could not tell if the story is worth while.
