Summary
Quinn Alexander has committed an unthinkable crime.
To avoid spending her life in prison, Quinn makes a run for it. She leaves behind her home, her job, and her family. She grabs her passport and heads for the northern border before the police can discover what she's done.
But when an unexpected snowstorm forces her off the road, Quinn must take refuge at the broken-down, isolated Baxter Motel. The handsome and kindly owner, Nick Baxter, is only too happy to offer her a cheap room for the night.
Unfortunately, the Baxter Motel isn't the quiet safe haven it seemed to be. The motel has a dark and disturbing past. And in the dilapidated house across the way, the silhouette of Nick's ailing wife is always at the window. Always watching.
In the morning, Quinn must leave the motel. She'll pack up her belongings and get back on the road to freedom.
But first, she must survive the night.

Good but not gripping
This is the second Freida Mcfadden book I've read and to be honest it was a disappointment. The first book I read (The Housemaid) was exceptional but I thought this one was a little predictable and quite monotonous. I found myself continuing with it out of the sake of finishing it rather than because I was gripped. The Psycho references a little lazy and obvious but it was still worth reading if you just want something to kill some time.

Entertaining
This worked really well for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of twists and turns with all the the authors familiar traits. Worked very well. Well narrated

3 stars
Kept me interested just enough to keep listening but the storyline wasn’t great and I found some of the characters frustrating. Hated that the author threw in last minute that a character had Bipolar Disorder and linked that to why she killed someone. How about she was just a bad person, why give her a sudden mental health condition in a throw away sentence that adds to stigma around mental health? It was clear the author was trying to force the reader in the wrong direction throughout the book.

Great holiday listen
Really easy listen, with an entertaining plot and some good twists. Listen to it in a day on holiday so definitely recommended. Not quite sure why the narrator came up with a whole new way of pronouncing masseuse, but gave me a chuckle everytime!
