About this listen

Re-release of best-selling 2009 novel - What happens when Rory travels halfway across the country to meet the girl of his dreams? Certainly not what he expected.

Rory's just a simple southern boy from St. Antoine's Parish, Louisiana, but he knows what he wants - the girl of his dreams, reclusive and mysterious artist Ran Yamane. He's loved her since junior high school, and now he has the chance to meet her. He chucks everything and travels 1,500 miles to Anime Expo in Long Beach just so he can tell her. He's determined that nothing and nobody are going to stand in his way.

Turns out, Ran Yamane isn't a girl, but he gets that a lot. People come to him with teddy bears and chocolates and disappointment by the truckload. He's trusted fans in the past and paid the price. So when he meets Rory he is understandably wary, but resigned. He isn't prepared for his magnetic attraction to the young man, Rory's apparent willingness to overlook his gender, and the chaos that ensues when his number one fan (and psycho stalker) shows up to get revenge.

I really enjoyed this audio book. The narration was really good and there was an entertaining range of accents on display. The relationship between Ran Yamane and Rory was gorgeous. I suppose this could be pigeonholed as 'gay for you' and Insta-love, but don't let that put you off. The writing is solid, fun, and the story, a roller coaster ride.

Great narration and really engaging story

The depth and surprising twists in this book are excellent. It's not a run of the mill romance but one with believable characters who grow emotionally. The narrator was a pleasure to listen to. He perfectly captured each individual's tone and accent.

Fantastic

Great book and good narration

Narration is really good. Many different accents and distinct voices for the different characters.

Dropped halfway through after the "southern boy with a heart of gold" sexually assaulted the other lead in his sleep. This is presented as awkward and a bit embarrasing but not adressed further. A shame really as the suspense was good and the whole road trip story could have been fun.

Dropped. Spoilers ahead.

I had this book on my to listen list for a while. It turned to to be a very good story with lots of suspense and action. The narrator is one of my favourites.

I really loved this book! The book began as I thought it would based on the description but other elements were soon thrown in elevating the story even further. The book was very interesting. The narrator was fantastic! He performed each character and accent with accuracy. I especially loved the Cajun accent! Spot on. Unfortunately, or not unfortunately, when the book first began I kept thinking 'Elvis'! :) There are several characters yet each had such a distinct voice from each other. I can't praise the narrator enough. This book is now one of my favourites and I will definitely be reading it again.

Great book!

The twists and turns of this story kept me hooked, it's well written and exciting to read. Greg Boudreaux perfectly captures each character individually, the juxtaposition between his southern accent and the other characters is the best i've heard this year. It sounds so genuine.

Amazing, very well read and written.

I really enjoyed it. I thought it was going to be a standard m/m romance with a lighter plot but it had some unexpected action and suspense that really intrigued me. The narrator is really good too.

Better than expected!

Beautifully narrated, fast-paced story. Doesn't easily fit into a specific genre but up there as one of my favourite guilty pleasures!

Contrived, cheesy, compelling.
