About this listen

The first book in the epic saga of humankind's war of transcendence

There is a milestone in the evolution of every sentient race, a Tech Singularity Event, when the species achieves transcendence through its technological advances. Now the creatures known as humans are near this momentous turning point.

But an armed threat is approaching from deepest space, determined to prevent humankind from crossing over that boundary—by total annihilation if necessary.

To the Sh'daar, the driving technologies of transcendent change are anathema and must be obliterated from the universe—along with those who would employ them. As their great warships destroy everything in their path en route to the Sol system, the human Confederation government falls into dangerous disarray.

There is but one hope, and it rests with a rogue Navy Admiral, commander of the kilometer-long star carrier America, as he leads his courageous fighters deep into enemy space towards humankind's greatest conflict—and quite possibly its last.

Critic reviews

‘Douglas knows his SF’
Publishers Weekly

‘The action is full-blooded and almost non stop, yet the well-developed background is surprisingly rich and logical … As immersive as it is impressive’
Kirkus (Starred Review)

What did you like most about Earth Strike?

Thorough insight into what our High Tech future might look like and how it affect human interaction and society.

Who was your favorite character and why?

all characters play their part

Which character – as performed by Nick Sullivan – was your favourite?

great narration by Nick Sullivan, again no favourites

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I have giggled often when listening to exchanges between the military personell

Humanity under attack, not knowing why

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

Heavy on boring technical detail, banal dialogue, simplistic plot - lost the will to listen

Dreadful

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes and the storey line was OK but once I got into it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Earth Strike?

After the battle with the Sh'daar and lLieutenant Grays great discovery by shooting his
Anti- ship Missile Sand Caster rockets at the speed of light at the oncoming fleet.

Have you listened to any of Nick Sullivan’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Nick Sullivan makes this storey come to life, I do not think anyone else could have pulled it off, I look for books that Nick is narrating because he only does good stories and I have listed to other books by other Authors and it puts me off them when the narration is poor!!

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Time is Running Out for Man

Any additional comments?

Please keep the Storyline going, don't take to long before getting the follow on books into audible.

A Good Listen

A book about space battles and battle ships. All good. Like a space version of midway. No real criticism of this book I enjoyed it.

What I was looking for

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

The story is interestingly paced. There are occasional descriptions or explanations of the necessary physics or technology. Apart from that the story moves along reasonably great.

A few words jarred, for example elliptic instead of ecliptic, and that is my only criticism.

Great space opera

Would you listen to Earth Strike again? Why?

Yes. Initially this was somewhat of a 'slow burn' but as the plot unfolded I found myself becoming more engaged with the story and the characters. I now plan to purchase the full series.

Who was your favorite character and why?

None - as yet.

The characters need more time to develop.

What about Nick Sullivan’s performance did you like?

Not the best performance but far from the worst I have heard.

A good solid performance.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not ever - but I would make the same comment to all audio books.

Any additional comments?

I'm just returning to Audible to purchase the next four books. I think that says it all!

Slow Burn

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

I didn’t realise that I’d read this series a couple of years ago until I was about 30 minutes in, and I nearly sent it back.

The books are ok, but I felt repetitively referred to technology use ( for example describing how the drives on a e fighter worked), but it worked much better in audible form

I enjoyed the audible version far more than the written.

Better than the kindle edition

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

Boring and complicated - Like sitting through a physic's exam

Made up words/noises and poor accents (i am sure the enemy were Scottish)

All of the above and the narrator sounded like Microsoft Sam's boring cousin

Awful

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

Tech and jargon over substance. If read it may work, as an audio book, it is just too full of mnemonics, code names etc. making too hard to follow what’s happening.

Overly complex and full of jargon

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

A sci fi book with no ideas, characters or coherent story line. A twelve year old child could have come up with something more interesting

Absolute rubbish
