Summary

The highly anticipated sequel to the SUNDAY TIMES bestselling EMPIRE OF THE VAMPIRE 'Bloody brilliant'
V.E. Schwab ‘A ripping read’
Joe Abercrombie

Gabriel de León has saved the Holy Grail from death, but his chance to end the endless night is lost.

After turning his back on his silversaint brothers once and for all, Gabriel and the Grail set out to learn the truth of how Daysdeath might finally be undone.

But the last silversaint faces peril, within and without. Pursued by children of the Forever King, drawn into wars and webs centuries in the weaving, and ravaged by his own rising bloodlust, Gabriel may not survive to see the truth of the Grail revealed.

A truth that may be too awful for any to imagine.

Includes a bonus conversation between Jay Kristoff and actor/director Joseph Morgan (The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Halo).

Critic reviews

‘If you were bitten by Empire Of The Vampire, you’ll know what to expect; if not, here’s another beautifully constructed, epic maelstrom of high-stakes gore and adventure… Awesome.’ Daily Mail

Praise for EMPIRE OF THE VAMPIRE

‘A ripping read – dark as black coffee and savage as a slit throat’

Joe Abercrombie, bestselling author of the First Law trilogy

‘A gothic bloodbath that will leave any reader breathless. The story is a vast apocalyptic canvas, reminiscent of Justin Cronin’s THE PASSAGE or even Stephen King’s THE STAND, yet Kristoff’s work stands on its own ruthless merit as the opening gambit of a richer tale yet to unfold. I can’t wait to return again to this rich, lush, and bloody world. Until then, read this book now!’

James Rollins, no.1 NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of THE LAST ODYSSEY and THE STARLESS CROWN

‘A wonderfully crafted tale, the pieces as meticulously interlocked as fine woodwork. A chilling new take on vampire lore and those who must battle that darkness. EMPIRE OF THE VAMPIRE looks fearlessly at how ruthless Good must become when confronted with unrelenting Evil’

Robin Hobb, SUNDAY TIMES and NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of THE ASSASSIN’S APPRENTICE

'Brilliant and unputdownable, with tenderness and light bound into the bitter dark of a grim and fascinating world'

Laini Taylor, NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of STRANGE THE DREAMER

'This book is bloody brilliant'

V.E. Schwab, NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of THE INVISIBLE LIFE OF ADDIE LARUE

Absolutely loved the split POVs!

Loved the first one. Loved this one.

Having a very serious split in POVs throughout this book at first worried me. For about a second. Wonderfully done, and wonderfully narrated to boot.

Silver and blood and intrigue and humour and action and horror and so much more. It really has everything and is so witty.

Very definitely recommend this series. Cannot wait for the next installment. Also love seeing artwork for it shared by Jay on social media. make more art, people. Make more art!

Great Sequel

Great sequel but this second audio book let down by sibilance of female narrators Selene. I guess having 2 narrators makes quicker production. I switched headphones and speakers so it’s not just tinny headphones. Maybe some audio processing would fix.

Gloriously decadent

Jay Kristoff it’s always so gloriously decadent in his writing. His descriptions, characterisation, action and you-know-what never leave anything to the imagination. The perfect middle book in a trilogy, it leaves you hungrier for the finish than when at the end of book one.

A rare second book better than the first

Kristoff's story is a brilliant balance of damnation and hope, fantasy and reality grounded philosophy, elegant prose and infernal swearing. Those who fancied the first book are going to love this totally.
In truly vampire fashion, it makes you suffer while asking for more.
Both of the actors gave a brilliant performance, nice touch to have a male and a female acting.

Everything about this is worth it .

Just Brilliant . Proper fantasy not fairy tale tripe.
A great story . Great characters, great narration . (Please keep them for next book). Just a bloody great yard . Congratulations to the author. Lol I suppose the stranger in society will form groups and web pages of them pretending to be various characters but hey everything has its downside …

Astoundingly BRILLIANT

I was a wee bit nervous about Empire of the Damned living up to the first book but GOOD GRIEF it is even better! Shouldn't have worried.....this is Jay Kristoff we're talking about after all 💘

Narration was bloody fantastic as always, with Damian Lynch at the helm but with the addition of Shakira Shute (she is a revelation by the way!, I had to message her on Instagram and tell her so 😍), it is PERFECTION

No spoiler but I laughed, I swore, I screamed, I shouted, I ugly cried....and most of all I loved it....my heart might not be broken but it is thoroughly and deeply bruised 💘💔🖤

Great continuation of the story

Enjoyed the story but was not a fan of the two narrators it wasn't down well, it would of worked much better if Damian had read the male parts and Shakira read the female parts.
