About this listen
All ice dragon shifters have a fated mate. But Andrew was never allowed to find his. At 18, he was forced to bond with a rich 70-year-old man.
Now that man is dead, Andrew is unable to bond to anyone else. He’s never felt so alone.
Timber has worked as a professional daddy dom for more than 10 years, when his agent comes to him with an unusual proposition. An omega from New York needs a hired knot, and he’s willing to pay an exorbitant sum. The contract comes with a picture of a beautiful man and a list of demands that are so in line with Timber’s personal interests, it’s uncanny.
At the end of the list is a nervous request:
“I’d like you to call me ‘baby boy'. If you wouldn’t mind.”
Timber can’t refuse a request like that.
Expensive is a gritty D/s love story set in the omegaverse with age play, hurt/comfort, and mpreg of the dragon egg variety. It was previously released as a short story. This version has an additional 30,000 words.
While Expensive is set in the same world as the Heron Manor series, it stands alone.

Fab
This is a fab book that features age play, hurt/comfort and angst. I really felt for both Andrew and Timber with what they have dealt with in the past and what they have to deal with to be able to be together especially when others are conspiring against them. There some steamy scenes and a brill egg laying scene.
Brill narrating that brought the story to life.

Unique and intriguing
*This review may have modest general content spoilers.*
This story has a very unique and intriguing story-line with a mix of shifters, warlocks, magic, and technology. The title of the book is very telling, because the MCs end up sacrificing just about everything to be together. It gets very dramatic, and rather strange and eerie about 75% through, and took a turn I wasn't expecting. Honestly, at that point I was ready to stop listening, but I had to know how the story ended. There is an HEA in the end, and the MCs end up changed, happy, and free. Maybe that is part of the lesson...that they had to give up the things that tied them down to move on. IDK. It's not the story I was expecting, but still well-done and very emotional. It has unique attributes that I had never seen before, like the bond ache and 'muzzling' shifters to prevent them from mating. I have mixed feelings about the story, and strangely, it didn't leave me with warm feelings. Perhaps after all the drama and sacrifice, the brief showing of happiness at the end wasn't enough for me. YMMV.
The narration was excellent with the soft, meek voice of Andrew and the strong, caring voice of Timber. All the character voices were different, well-suited, and easily distinguished.

Second chance at happiness
Amy Bellows is a new author to me but I was certainly willing to try her book. I’ve been on a shifter run and this isn’t even my first dragon shifter book. I liked the premise of this one – a man who is bound to a life he doesn’t want because of ancient traditions and family. Ugh, Andrew’s family.
But Andrew has a caring staff member who suggests he find someone to satisfy his needs. With infinite resources, Andrew selects Timber, a porn star. Timber is ready to admit the money would be nice, but there’s something about this young man that calls to his inner protective alpha. One taste of Andrew and he knows his life has irrevocably changed.
Then a pregnancy derails everything.
But I kept hoping the men would find their happy ending. That against all odds, something good would happen to both of them. Well, I was quite pleased with the ending of the book. There was a lot going on with other characters and if there are more books, I’ll pick them up as well. Finally Zachary Zaba. I quite enjoy his narrations and he rounded out this lovely book nicely.

Perfectly imperfect
Andrew is so lonely he's desperate for affection and companionship.
Timber has suffered as well in the red wolves pits.
Both of these men have suffered horrific pasts but they refuse to let it define them.
Timber was so wonderfully sweet and protective of Andrew, will to show him how much he deserves to be loved and be happy as well.
Zachary Zaba did an amazing job narrating and bringing the characters to life.

Wolf and Dragon shifters and Dark Magic
Andrew and Timbers story takes you through a turmoil of emotions, from hiding and sacrificing things dear to them.
The story is about Andrew, who needs some maintenance for his heats, as his bonded mate has died. So he hires Timber, and things develop, but the relationship has to be hidden, good world-building, Daddy/Boy, Mpreg, Ageplay and a lot of hurt/comfort with a birth scene.
These two main characters are well written and complement each other, I simply love the narration by Zachary Zaba, very easy to listen to, and each voice was distinctive. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

Interesting
This was an interesting story. I did feel as if something was missing - maybe more background or world-building? To me (like my dark, very dark), it felt more messed up/agonizing decisions than dark, which is still good but not exactly what I was expecting. Overall it was a good listen, and while I doubt ill relisten, I'd check out the next book. It could be me (I’ve sped up a lot lately), but the narration was slow. It did get better after the sped-up.

Emotional!
This was a highly emotional, angsty, intriguing take on shifters. I really liked following Timber and Andrew as they navigated their rather unconventional relationship and everything they had to go through to get their HEA. They were sweet and hot together.
Zachary Zaba did a fantastic job with all the characters, his voice is very pleasant and he brings a lot of emotion into his narration, which made the book even better for me.
