About this listen

Revised and updated with over 600,000 copies sold.

Pia Mellody creates a framework for identifying codependent thinking, emotions and behaviour and provides an effective approach to recovery. Mellody sets forth five primary adult symptoms of this crippling condition, then traces their origin to emotional, spiritual, intellectual, physical and sexual abuses that occur in childhood. Central to Mellody's approach is the concept that the codependent adult's injured inner child needs healing. Recovery from codependence, therefore, involves clearing up the toxic emotions left over from these painful childhood experiences.

Enlightening

The content can be hard hitting and at times upsetting - just to warn people however it made me really take note of my codependency and take steps. My only critique, which is subjective is that I found the narrators voice monotonous and often switched off and had to rewind. Other than that I thank you!

Masterpiece

Pia melody’s outline of codependence is a work of genius insight in my opinion. This book outlines nearly all dysfunctional relationships with pinpoint accuracy, a must listen for anyone as everyone has some degree of codependence. Following up with the 12 steps is a must.

Quintessential read for anyone dealing with codependency

This book articulates and breaks down the important factors that a person needs to think about and reflect on if they are experiencing codependency.
It helped me articulate thoughts I had and helped me understand what it is I’m feeling and where I need to go next with it.
I totally recommend this important book.

Fantastic

Absolutely brilliant. I avoided this book for ages as I was scared of discovering I had codependence. Pia expresses the concepts in a way that are gentle and digestible. I would highly recommend this book

Great book!!

This book was brilliant. It was written so that people without medical background could understand it.
I would have preferred it narrated by a female so it sounded like the author as she is female although putting that aside there was nothing wrong with the narrator. I still found the book extremely informative and didn’t want the book to end

Great book, wrong narrator

An excellent book, just a shame about the narrator’s voice. It put me off as it is very robotic and not engaging at all. I agree with other comments, a female voice would have been more appropriate here.

Classic but the narrator...

This is a classic must read book on codependence. However, the narration is painful and hard to listen to.

Great book but why make voice?

I don’t understand why there is a male narrator when it is a female writer? Makes me feel disconnected from the writers voice and something that drew me to this book is the safety of a female writer…
