About this listen

Darkness falls on the Great Green, and the Ancient World is fiercely divided. On the killing fields outside the golden city of Troy, forces loyal to the Mykene King mass. Among them is Odysseus, fabled storyteller and reluctant ally to the Mykene, who knows that he must soon face his former friends in deadly combat.

Within the city, the Trojan king waits. Ailing and bitter, his hope is pinned on two heroes: his favourite son, Hektor, and the dread Helikaon, who will wreak terrible vengeance for the death of his wife at Mykene hands.

War has been declared. As enemies, who are also kinsmen, are filled with bloodlust, they know that many of them will die and that some will become heroes: heroes who will live forever in a story that will echo down the centuries.

superb

I don't think I have enjoyed an audio book so much since Bernard Cornwell 's Arthur series. Full of action and wonderful engaging characters most of whom have enough light and shade to make them interesting. Even if you know the story of Troy well I would recommend this series, as there are a couple of beautiful twists. I thought the narrator did a great job particularly giving each character their own voice

Easy Listening

This trilogy is a set I will keep. I will return to it again in the future to awaken again the characters and heroes, villains and cowards. Easy listening at its best

wonderful climax

as the inevitable end drew nearer I was torn between racing on and not wanting it to finish. I love the twists on well known and loved legends that David has created in this series. I have read the books many times but listening to them has brought an extra depth.
