About this listen

The car jolts to a halt at the pavement's edge, the driver waving through the windscreen to attract Richard's attention. He starts with astonishment. The driver is Gemma, his ex-wife.

He has not seen or spoken to her for several years. They have, she memorably assured him the last time they met, nothing to say to each other. But something has changed her mind - something urgent.

Immediately Richard is catapulted into a breathless race against time that takes him from London, across northern Europe and into the heart of a mystery that reaches back into history - the fate of Anastasia, youngest daughter of Tsar Nicholas II, the last of the Romanovs. From that moment, Richard's life will be changed for ever in ways he could never have imagined.

Tour of Scandinavia

This time, Mr. Goddard moved the action to the Scandinavia but it doesn't make a big difference, and the book is as good as usual. The first hours with this audiobook were excellent and I even expected it will be my best book from this author, I ever read or listened, but the action was not so good later - not because it was too slow (just the opposite) but some twists and developments were just too adventurous. Nevertheless, it's another good book from Mr Goddard and I have already downloaded more of his works.

Not his best

Not the best book from Robert Goddard and nearly gave up on it several times but persevered to the end.

A really good listen

I love all the books by Robert Goddard, they are very cleverly written, and a work of pure genius. He is an immense prevalent author. Brilliantly narrated.

A bit too much

Mabye this is only a problem of the audio version of the book, but it is really difficult to follow all the family trees, references and remote connections. In the end I decided to just skip the details because my brain processed the details too slow and I would have lost track completely :)
Other than that, I love Goddard, his characters and his style.
The performance of the narrator was flawless - great!

Muddled

I love Robert Goddard ‘s stories but this had far too many characters and the plot is very muddled It has a potential story line but loses its way. Shame. Good idea but over written and unsatisfactory.

Good all the way until the end

I found the end really disappointing. But was gripping until then. Lots of unanswered questions.

What a great Narrator!

Another successful Goddard story. Loved the sensitive narration by John Sackville, which really brought the story to life, so important for stories in audio. Perhaps he could be commissioned to narrate all the other Goddard stories, some of whose narrators are somewhat stilted and wooden!

Robert Goddard is a good story teller

This is a typical Robert Goddard tale of intrigue and suspense with some worthy twists and turns. Like most good stories it takes one along in a wave of expectation.

Delightful if predictable ending.

Not a satisfying listen

The story idea was good; however, there were so many different characters introduced throughout the story that I found it difficult to keep up with them. A character list, and who they are in relation to the story would have been greatly appreciated.

Least good Goddard

Glad it is finished. I usually love Robert Goddard stories but this was overly complicated and in many parts boring.
