About this listen
Benny White had been having a rough couple of years, and the approaching apocalypse wasn’t exactly helping.
Pulled from the point of death and thrust into a horde-mode-style survival game, Benny’s odds weren’t looking too great. To make matters worse, an eldritch god… entity… thing named ‘Dave’ tasked him with destroying the very System that now controls his fate.
But hey, it's not all bad news. Benny’s experience as a lab tech grants him a rare Splicer Class that lets him repurpose the genetic material of slain enemies into augments for himself. Bone claws, blood-bullet turrets, and maybe a skeletal hydra head or two are just a few of the additions to his gory arsenal.
Then there’s his Flesh Golem summon, a six-foot mound of muscle and sinew called Meat. That lumbering monstrosity might come in handy, just as soon as it stops walking into trees…
The stage has been set. The contestants have been chosen. The entire galaxy is watching.

Characters and summons personalities are quite good and varied and develop well through out. Especially the summons Meat.

This book is great. Its has the qualities of an amazing series; a good MC (who's normal), great convo between MC and the side characters, a loveable summon (MEAT!) and an amazing plot.
Furthermore, it contains elements which makes the story intesting and addictive.
The MCs build is unique and interesting I can't wait to see how he progresses.
MORE MEAT!

I loved the MC companion MEAT who portrayed a great personality without speaking and was really great buddy. The MC was likeable character and wasn't too whingy or stupid.
Obviously he started to build up a rooster of friends who were all well developed and interesting.
The game mechanics and spells were varied and well thought out.
There was a bit of dungeoning, tower defence and exploit grinding which I enjoyed.
I had not listened to Eric Michael Summerer before but was pleasantly surprised and he was spot on.
This is a perfect book one of a series I will be looking forward to more.

That said, there was a moment where I nearly set the book aside. The main character's lengthy moral deliberations, complete with verbose explanations and principled speeches, threatened to derail the story. It's a trope that plagues many in this genre, often leaving readers feeling patronized and disengaged. While I believe they could have been conveyed more succinctly and organically, I ultimately think in this book there is a point to it (with regards to the characters development) so I am persevering through it
The magic system introduced in the book is good and i definitely like the splicing aspect.
Where this book truly shines is in its world-building and the hinted to machinations of the entities that govern it. While the main storyline progresses in a linear fashion, there are tantalizing hints of a much broader and more complex world lurking just beneath the surface.
I grew to appreciate the main character, who defies the typical alpha archetype and instead grapples with his own shortcomings while striving for the greater good. His connection to dark powers adds an cool layer to his character.
In conclusion, while this book may have its flaws, it marks a promising debut for the series. I, for one, am intrigued to see where the story goes from here and eagerly anticipate the next instalment.
A Promising start
