About this listen

Going Dark is the debut crime thriller from former covert specialist Detective Sergeant Neil Lancaster.

Tom Novak is a troubled soul with a dark and bloody past. A former refugee, Royal Marine and member of the elite Special Reconnaissance Regiment, he now finds himself struggling with the deadening routine of day-to-day policing. When he is deployed undercover to infiltrate a gang of people traffickers, things go badly wrong. Faced with an impossible choice, his cover is blown, and he finds himself on the run from the Serbian mafia and even his fellow police colleagues. With no-one to trust, and his enemies using all the resources of the state against him, Tom has only one option: to Go Dark.

Fabulous new author!

Great book - can’t wait for the next instalment. Good twists and turns from an author who knows his subject. Good to get SRR into a book too...

Entertaining story - terrible narration

I had to listen to this at 1.5 speed, just to get past the odd cadence of the narrator. It was as though each word was recorded in isolation and then pasted together.

On a more positive note. The story was fun and kept me hooked until the end.

Excellent fast paced story!

At first I wasn’t sure about this story or the narrator whose voice seemed flat and lacking in animation. However, the more I got into the book the more I felt it was up to date and relevant to modern news stories.
Also the voice Guy Mott grew on me and somehow was appropriate for the narration of the gruesome events taking place within the story.
I am now looking forward to listening to the next episode in Tom Novac’s life.

Good story

I really enjoyed this book loved the story line and characters looking forward to the next book. Couple of characters had dodgy voices but that doesn’t really impact on the story.

Good plot, let down at times by narration

loved the story, almost gave up due to the narrator. his female voices and Scots accent (apart from main character) were like parody voices at times. I'm glad I stuck with it though, and I'll almost certainly purchase other books in the series.
