Summary

No one survives hiring me. Not even her.

I’m a Nightmare, a creature that feeds on fear, and I’m capable of boundless cruelty—which is why my services come at a steep price: the life of the person who hired me. As such, the only people who hire me on are those brought to me by fate, like Mina, a woman so desperate for revenge that she’s willing to spend her own life to get it.

I don’t usually care why I’m hired. Human affairs don’t matter to me. Food is food, and a job is a job.

Mina’s enemies will get what they deserve—and I’ll get what’s mine.

Her beating heart.

Monster Security Agency is the most elite bodyguard service in the world. These monster bodyguards are lethal, powerful, and determined to protect their clients at all costs. They shouldn't fall in love with their principals, but if they do? Things are bound to explode.

Here come spicy, romantic, and action-packed tales by your favorite paranormal and sci-fi romance authors: Cassie Alexander, Layla Fae, and Cara Wylde. Dive into the world of the Monster Security Agency.

4.5 Stars!

Love a good revenge plot!

After Mina goes through a horrible experience, she tries to get justice. After several failed attempts, she finally decides to hire the Monster Security Agency. Through the agency, she hires the Nightmare, Sylas, who lives on fear, to take out her enemies. But it comes at the cost of her life. Throughout the book, we follow Mina and Sylas as they go through with her revenge plan and give Mina’s enemies what they deserve. We also see them fall for each other, but as Mina exchanged her life for all this, can they figure out something and be together, or are they destined to be apart?

This monster/magic paranormal romance was soo unhinged in the best way. It was gritty and entertaining. It was hard to read at points (check triggers below), but once I got over that part, I was thoroughly entertained. The world-building was excellent and well-developed. I also loved the chemistry between Mina and Sylas. I also loved how the world’s history within the book was explored. Overall, this was a great read.

Narrated by Jonathan Lake and Avery Caris, both narrators’ performances were excellent. Their voices and performances pulled me into the story and really brought the characters and the overall story to life. I highly recommend this book if you’re into monster/paranormal romances with some sprinkling of suspense!

Perfect casting!!

4.5 stars for story / 5 stars for performance

This is the first book from this series I’ve read and it can absolutely be enjoyed without reading the earlier books. I did not feel lost or like I was missing anything at any point. The story is exciting and sad and funny, somehow all at once. Be mindful of content warnings and the humor is dark but well done. The storyline was so good and the perfect book for spooky season!! I enjoyed it so much I plan on catching up with the other books soon.

Audio narration and production was so well done. Each narrator performed their main character and their counterparts flawlessly. Every side character had unique voices and the skillful performances added such an entertaining layer to the story!

Engaging vengeance fuelled monster romance

I really enjoyed the premise of this and what I thought was going to be a straight forward revenge plot still had plenty of twists and turns. The connection between Silas and Mina from the start wasn't what I was expecting and it was definitely more of a grumpy x grumpy than grumpy x sunshine but it really works. Despite dealing with some heavy themes and quite a bit of gore there were some lighter elements and I liked the moments of humour which were peppered throughout not only between Silas and Mina but also with the other characters at the Agency. I haven't read the others in the series but I'll be adding them to my TBR as I loved who popped up in this one.

The narration was excellent; I'm a fan of Avery Caris and she really shone in Mina's vulnerable moments and I loved Jonathan Lake's spin on Silas (especially his sarcasm) as well as his female voices. I honestly forgot that the growly "my Queen" voice was the same person in some of the chapters!

My interpretation of the star system;
3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read
