About this listen

THE #1 SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER

Hidden among us is a secret government department of witches known as Her Majesty’s Royal Coven.

They protect crown and country from magical forces and otherworldly evil, but their greatest enemy will come from within…

There are whisperings of a prophecy that will bring the coven to its knees, and four best friends are about to be caught at the centre.

Life as a modern witch was never simple … but now it’s about to get apocalyptic.

Prepare to be bewitched by Juno Dawson’s first adult series. A story of ancient prophecies and modern dating, of sacred sisterhood and demonic frenemies.

This was so much better than I could of hoped it would be. I listened to it within 2 days as I just could not stop. Amazing narration and awesome storyline. Cannot wait for the next one to be published and turned into an audiobook. Fully and highly recommend!

Magical story with amazing inclusion

It took me a while to get into (there is a lot of world building) but this book totally won me over by the end. The parallels with real world politics are neat and weave cleverly into the story. It's exciting, like and action-fantasy movie at times, but what stands out are the complex friendships between the main characters. I'm looking forward to book 2 but also felt that this book tells a satisfying and self-contained story with a thrilling conclusion.

Immersive story and great characters

This is such a fun women-centred storyline. I loved the characters and the plot. But the choice of narrator was just perfection. A lovely listening experience. What an ending too - can't wait to dive into the next book in the series!

Perfectly narrated

Nicola was a fantastic narrator and the story was so compelling and relatable. Juno is an incredible writer who really got everything right with this. I enjoyed it thoroughly and will be recommending it to everyone!

Brilliant!

This was one of the best audiobooks I’ve ever listened to. The narration brought alive this fantastic writing. I wasn’t sure if it was my kind of thing but I was hooked and couldn’t stop listening!!!

Incredible book!!!

Oh god, I devoured this book. Trademark Juno Dawson memorable characters and bitchy dialogue mixed with urban magic, a great foundation world-build... and the Spice Girls.

What really makes this soar is Nicola Coughlan's phenomenal narration. She deftly handles a plethora of characters and accents making each distinct and still giving real emotion. I've listened to three books since and still haven't found myself as impressed as I think she's spoilt me, so I was reminded to come back and give a review.

The themes within the book are arguably overladen at times, however they are important and add a fresh perspective on a familiar set up. Dawson spins the plates of various protagonists with a momentum that sees meaningful growth across the main and secondary characters with plenty of room for her upcoming sequel.

A triumph all round.

A perfect partnership

Loved every second of it. The Welsh accent could have been a little better but aside from that I can’t fault it! Love Juno. Love Nicola.

The writing style

Took a little while to get into but didn’t go where I was expecting so kept me hooked!

Really interesting

I really enjoyed this book with its take on all different facets of life until right to the end. I found the closing aspects very unnecessary and cruel. I can understand why this ending was written in such a way but it made a nasty point: woman to suffer man to get away with it. I am not sure I can face the sequel.
Nicola was superb. I hope she does more narrations.

Interesting but judgemental
