About this listen

Ignatius Perrish spent the night drunk and doing terrible things. He woke up the next morning with one hell of a hangover, a raging headache... and a pair of horns growing from his temples. Once, Ig lived the life of the blessed: born into privilege, the second son of a renowned American musician, and the younger brother of a rising late-night TV star, Ig had security and wealth and a place in his community. Ig had it all, and more - he had the love of Merrin Williams, a love founded on shared daydreams, mutual daring, and unlikely midsummer magic.

Then beautiful, vivacious Merrin was gone - raped and murdered, under inexplicable circumstances - with Ig the only suspect. He was never tried for the crime, but in the court of public opinion, Ig was and always would be guilty. Now Ig is possessed with a terrible new power to go with his terrible new look, and he means to use it to find the man who killed Merrin and destroyed his life. Being good and praying for the best got him nowhere. It's time for a little revenge; it's time the devil had his due.

It was ok.

What did you like best about Horns? What did you like least?

I liked the narrator, but I found it quite a hard listen at times not really getting the story at times, it that could just be me.
I'm going to watch the movie now to see if it will help piece a few things together.

A good story

Similar pacing to heart shaped box. A good story, far better than Fireman. I like Joe's work.

Wicked!

A superb dark and twisted book. Joe Hill is Stephen kings son ( in case you didn't know. I didn't before buying) and his writing style is very similar. I've only read 2 King novels myself but i can definitely see the resemblance in styles.

This book is not for the squeamish, it deals with some very deprived and vile issues so if your the type that is easily offended or made uncomfortable then this book is definitely not for you. If you prefer your central characters likeable and charming then this book is not for you.

I really enjoyed this book. A very original narrative and anything but predictable. My first time reading Joe Hill and i will definitely pick up more of his work based on the strength of Horns.

My 1st Joe Hill

The apple really doesn't fall far...

An imaginative tale well written with great twists to keep you hooked with anticipation. The subjects explored in this book are original and well portrayed, I cannot wait to read more of this author...

Brilliant performance excellent story

I’d seen various reviews of the audible version of this story and thought : lets give it go.I’m so pleased l did.l think it starts very well with some entertaining set pieces, has a sort of flashback section which reminded me a little of Stephen King when he writes of childhood , and, as the book progresses has violence, fantasy, religion and thriller all mixed together. I listen to audible stories on my commute home from work; but towards the end of this book,I was listening at home too.
Very good and has me looking for my next Joe Hill book!

A brilliant book. Don't judge by the film..

This is one of the first audio books I ever listened to and I loved it, then a few years later the Daniel Radcliffe adaptation came out and spoiled many of the fond memories of reading the book (I hate it when bad adaptations manage to corrupt your memories). However, I returned to it and rest assured, the book was still great - it is a powerful satire and deals with some big themes, which all comes together in a great work of fantasy. Highly recommended.

A great book and a great listen.

First book from Joe Hill that I've listened and it doesn't disappoint, really good story and narration.

A good one

I enjoyed listening to this book, quite different. Quite different that is until the pennies began to fall. Similarities of style and content began to ring bells. Bit of research on Mr Hill . . . . . son of Mr King . . . all becomes clear.
A great listen, a little over written at times - editor could cut an hour perhaps. A lot to live up to, but if you enjoy dad then you will enjoy the son.

Funny, original and leaves you wanting more.

What made the experience of listening to Horns the most enjoyable?

Horns is one of those books that needs to be read to be appreciated, if you tell someone the storyline it can sound silly. It's so much more, clever and original and full of black humour.

What about Fred Berman’s performance did you like?

He pitched all the characters perfectly, and was consistent with voices so you never wondered who was talking.

Any additional comments?

This is my second Joe Hill book, I enjoyed NOS4R2 and this was equally good. Both kept me wanting more, I will be getting more of Joe's work.

Very good

What a weird and good book! I never got the answer to a lot of questions and yet it doesn't matter. Funny at times, sad at others, it was a pleasure to listen to this. Don't expect a horror book though, this is more of a psychological search for meaning type of book, although it has its supernatural parts.
