About this listen

Hyperfocus by Chris Bailey is a practical guide to managing your attention – the most powerful resource you have to become more creative, get stuff done, and live a more meaningful life.

'The most productive man you'd ever hope to meet' –
TED

In Hyperfocus, you will learn:

  • How working fewer hours can increase our productivity
  • How we get more done by making our work harder, not easier
  • How we do our best creative work when we're the most tired

Our attention has never been as overwhelmed as it is today and we've never been so busy while accomplishing so little.

In Hyperfocus, Chris Bailey provides profound insights into how we can best manage our attention. He reveals how the brain switches between two mental modes – hyperfocus, our deep concentration mode, and scatterfocus, our creative, reflective mode – and how the surest path to being our most creative and efficient selves at work is to combine them both.

'The best productivity plans call for strategy, not just hacks or tactics – When you read this book, get ready to do your most important work!' – Chris Guillebeau, author of Side Hustle.

I was expecting more

I had probably very high or too high expectations for the book.
The book is good the fact is that the author and the structure of the book didn't really work for me.

Really useful bits of information. Could easily be half the size.

the book has alot of really good insights and interesting research. it felt like it began to repeat itself alot though. this could have been half as long and just as informative.

I couldn’t quite get to loving this book but found it very useful nonetheless

It might have been the wrong time for me to read this book but I just didn’t get into it in the same way I do other personal development books. Having said that it does have some very useful tips which I am very grateful for as I’m convinced they will be very useful for me. I think 4 stars is fair as it was certainly good but not perhaps superb

Important material, but littered with assumptions

Overall, I enjoyed this book. However, it is littered with assumptions about how people should and shouldn’t work and the author demonstrates a lack of experience in setting up tech so it doesn’t disturb us. There is also a sense of privilege that leaks through in the reading. I think some peoples lives are just a little bit more difficult than he alludes. I do wonder about the plausibility of some of his stories. That said, I would definitely recommend a book for people who are less disciplined, focused and productive.
