About this listen

The best of the golden age crime writers, praised by all the top modern writers in the field including P. D. James and Ruth Rendell, Dorothy L. Sayers created the immortal Lord Peter Wimsey. The 14th book featuring Lord Peter is a collection of short stories: 17 little masterpieces of crime writing.

In In the Teeth of the Evidence, all that was left of the garage was a heap of charred and smouldering beams. In the driving seat of the burnt-out car were the remains of a body.... An accident, said the police. An accident, said the widow. She had been warning her husband about the danger of the car for months. Murder, said the famous detective Lord Peter Wimsey - and proceeded to track down the killer.

Critic reviews

"I admire her novels...she has great fertility of invention, ingenuity and a wonderful eye for detail." (P. D. James)

Description does not mention that it is a collection of short stories. Only one of them is a Wimsey story. I would not have bought this if description had been more accurate.

Don't buy this if you are a Wimsey fan.

This book is advertised as Lord Peter Wimsey but it is a collection of very boring short stories. I didn't enjoy it and feel I was mislead by the blurb Ill be more careful to "google" titles before I buy again

Disappointing. Only 1 Wimsey story. The remaining stories weren't very entertaining. Wouldn't recommend if you're a Wimsey fan.

I love Sayers, especially the Lord Peter stories which is why I bought this. However I feel rather let down by this collection of short stories, the vast majority of which are not Lord Peter stories, in spite of what it says on the cover! Some of the others are OKish, but I don't think the short story format was really Sayer's forte. I've persevered through over half of the book, hoping I would warm to it, but to be honest I've had enough and will delete this from my library. A bit of a waste of an audible credit I'm afraid.

Don't bother I'm afraid

Nowhere on the front of this did it say it was short stories. Only one was a Lord Peter. I found it disappointing.
