About this listen

The foundational and wildly popular go-to resource for influence and persuasion—a renowned international bestseller, with over 5 million copies sold—now revised, adding: new research, new insights, new examples, and online applications.

In the new edition of this highly acclaimed bestseller, Robert Cialdini—New York Times bestselling author of Pre-Suasion and the seminal expert in the fields of influence and persuasion—explains the psychology of why people say yes and how to apply these insights ethically in business and everyday settings. Using memorable stories and relatable examples, Cialdini makes this crucially important subject surprisingly easy. With Cialdini as a guide, you don't have to be a scientist to learn how to use this science.

You'll learn Cialdini's Universal Principles of Influence, including new research and new uses so you can become an even more skilled persuader—and just as importantly, you'll learn how to defend yourself against unethical influence attempts. You may think you know these principles, but without understanding their intricacies, you may be ceding their power to someone else.

Cialdini's Principles of Persuasion:

  • Reciprocation
  • Commitment and Consistency
  • Social Proof
  • Liking
  • Authority
  • Scarcity
  • Unity, the newest principle for this edition

Understanding and applying the principles ethically is cost-free and deceptively easy. Backed by Dr. Cialdini's 35 years of evidence-based, peer-reviewed scientific research—including a three-year field study on what leads people to change—Influence is a comprehensive guide to using these principles to move others in your direction.

Time well spent!

Educational, instructional, inspirational and actionable. This book opened my eyes to all the times I have been influenced and have successfully influenced others. My biggest takeaway is that labelling the behaviour allows you to control the outcome. Great work.

Access and ignorance

I couldn’t access this valuable information until now. I don’t know whether it is my circumstances or ignorance. I am grateful for this opportunity to listen to this formidable guidance.

Very useful concepts and a pleasure to read

The whole book is very well written and keeps drawing you in. He structures the book with examples and stories that make it gripping and make you want to keep reading and help you remember the concepts.
The main thing though is the fascinating concepts explained in the book with principles which I think will be very useful for me in my life. He explains all the things that marketers and anyone trying to have influence will use on us and the ways that we can have more impact on others.

Everyone should read this

This is one of those seminal books that everyone should read. A lot of the points covered are similar to many other marketing/behavioural psychology books but there are some that are entirely original and the entire is well structured and presented in such a way as to hold the reader's attention. None of the vain personal anecodotes that you often find in this genre - each story is base on rigorous academic research and totally relevant to the point being made. It covers pretty much everything you might want to know about how people can be persuaded to do things without realising why and even against their rational judgment. The book could have finished earlier as the latter third seemed a bit disjointed from the rest and didn't add anything more. But overall it's an excellent expose of the tricks and tactics used by politicians, clergy, sales people as well as business and personal associates to get you to comply with what they want you to do.

Removed one star for wokeness

He said Latinx, that was stupid. I don't blame him, I blame the current dumb culture. Otherwise should be taught in schools.
