June 1966: 3 Squadron SAS (Australian Special Air Service) set up a Forward Operating Base in Vietnam’s Phuoc Tuy province, a swampy hell of jungle and paddy-fields forty-five miles east of Saigon in the heart of enemy territory. The Viet Cong have bases throughout the jungle, and the Australians soon find themselves under constant attack.

Enter three members of the legendary 22 SAS, to assist in a major assault against the Viet Cong: Sergeant Jimmy ‘Jimbo’ Ashman, founding member of the Regiment; Sergeant Richard ‘Dead-eye Dick’ Parker, veteran of previous SAS operations in Malaya, Borneo and Aden; and Lieutenant-Colonel Patrick ‘Paddy’ Callaghan, pulled out of administration specially for this secret mission.

Working under appalling conditions, Brits and Aussies must try to forge themselves into a potent fighting machine, as they have been tasked with the fearsome job of rooting the Viet Cong out of their labyrinthine tunnel system. It will be a journey into hell, and some will never return.

Good story but terrible attempt at Australian accents by the narrator! They really put me off.

I have read many of Shaun Clarke's books, especially his SAS Soldier A, B, C... series, and they are superb. This one is no exception.
This is the first that I have listened to and unfortunately the narrator sounds completely bored throughout the descriptive sections, however his accents are brilliant so it balanced out quite well.

If this book is a ture account about the British SAS involvement in vitanam even though it will never be aggred by the SAS
that they was there but I would still recommend this as a great read , I would put it up there with Damien Lewis on his accounts about the SAS.

sadly some blazing errors regarding weapon use, 7.62 SLR is a single shot weapon and cannot fire "bursts"! the 66mm LAW is a single use weapon and is discarded after firing!
not very impressed.
and as far as "over and out" said several times, no professional serviceman would use both words together in voice procedure for fear of ridicule! it's either over (k) or out (.)

Sorry. I gave up pretty about a third of the way through as it didn't make any sense from a military point of view.
There were errors, inconsistencies and a lack of tactical awareness.

As a former soldier, I couldn't listen to this

A poorly researched, historically inaccurate book. Even as a story it lacks enough description to transport you there. Anyone with a basic knowledge of the Vietnam conflict will be constantly irritated by the litany of inaccuracies and implausible story line.
