KickStart My Heart is a sweet, low angst story with a great set of characters and a cute little girl who steals the show. Mallory is a single mother who is trying her best to provide for her daughter after leaving a not so great situation. She gets a job as a waitress at Burgers and Brew which is co-owned by an awesome set of friends, one of which is Walker. Walker historically has not been the settling down type but from the moment he saw Mallory, there was just something that called to him about her. When he realized she had a three-year-old daughter, though he was a little surprised, he was pretty much a goner and she had him wrapped around her finger pretty quickly.

I really liked Walker and all of the guys who owned Burgers and Brew. I enjoyed hearing about their friendship and loved how close they were....definitely like family. I liked how strong Mallory was and how hard she worked to protect her daughter and provide for her even when it wasn't easy. I absolutely 100% adored Walker's relationship with Mallory's daughter. I did struggle at times with truly feeling the connection between Mallory and Walker, even if I really wanted it to be there.

This story is low drama and just an overall light and feel good story for the most part. I listened to the audiobook of this story which I think was very well done. The narrators did a fantastic job bringing this story to life. I look forward to reading and/or listening to the other books in the series.

I thought PJ Morgan and Scott Rose did a great job with the narration of the story and would definitely recommend them. #PinkFlamingoProductions #TheFlock

Loved the dual narration of PJ Morgan and Scott Rose. Perfect.

Mallory a single mum to three year old Lizzie. And man will you fall in love with this little girl. Living in an apartment she can barely afford. Mallory gets a job as a waitress at Burgers and Brew , she wants and she was happy. She care of herself and her daughter.

Walker is Mallory's boss and he has a rule do not date employees or the people in his bar. But the moment he meets Mallory, and her gorgeous little girl. That idea seems to disappear. He knew that he wanted both of them. But will Mallory let him?

This book drew me right in, not only grabbing my attention and captivating it the entire time, but it tugged on my heartstrings too. Lacey Black is a gifted author with a wonderful writing style, her descriptive details bring you alongside her characters, allowing you to see what they are seeing, thinking and experiencing. I adored the lead characters, Walker and Mallory, her daughter Lizzy too. The secondary and support characters are pretty amazing too, mostly Walker’s work partners and friends, aka the “Burgers & Brew Crüe”, Isaac, Jasper and Jamison. The camaraderie amongst them was great, and I loved how they had each other’s backs. Mallory left an awful marriage and situation behind, taking her daughter and whatever she could fit in her car to start over fresh. After finding a place to live, she got a job waitressing at “Burgers & Brew. Walker felt attracted to Mallory the moment he saw her, but he has a rule to not date any employees so nothing was ever going to happen between them. The more he got to know her, the more he wanted her, and he had second thoughts about his rules. Mallory’s daughter is her primary focus, but Walker is so understanding and accepting, she can not help but fall for him, her daughter did too. But then her past comes back into her life and threatens everything she has. I loved how everything played out in this book, it is a beautifully plotted story with the perfect balance of drama, charm, heartwarming moments, heartfelt emotions and a wonderful romance. Lacey Black, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride. 


🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, PJ Morgan and Scott Rose were the perfect cast to bring these characters and story to life. They had a complete understanding of the characters they were portraying, took each role and made it their own, sounding believable and just as I pictured the characters to sound. Morgan grasped every side of Mallory’s personality, from her bravery to her fierceness. Rose nailed it as Walker, he too grasped alls sides of his personality. Both were just as amazing performing the roles of the secondary characters and Lizzy, who had them under her adorable little thumb. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and projected them into their performance. These entertaining storytellers are versatile voice artists and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another wonderful listen.

I enjoyed listening to Kickstart my Heart. Lacey Black is a relatively new author to me and I really enjoyed the previous (and first) book I listened so I decided to give this one a try and do not regret it. I’m actually looking forward to the rest of the series.

This book has a bit of everything one enjoys in a rom-com - banter, friendship, family shenanigans, a bit of drama and of course a Happy Ever After.

PJ Morgan and Scott Rose were brilliant as Mallory and Walker.

Kickstart My Heart by Lacey Black is a contemporary single mom romance that I listened to on audio narrated by PJ Morgan and Scott Rose.

This is my first book of Lacey's, and it won't be my last. I really enjoyed the relationship that bloomed between Walker and Mallory. I liked that we got both of their points of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

I can't wait for the next book in the series Don't Go Away Mad to be released on audio so I can get Jasper and Lyndee's story.

PJ and Scott did an amazing job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this book if you like contemporary romances, single mom romances, found family romance, or small-town romances.

This has always been my favourite Lacey Black book. The audiobook does the story fully justice. The narrators are perfect and bring Walker and Mallory alive. Next step... turn it into a movie!

Walker has learnt in the most painful way possible that mixing work and pleasure don’t work so all he needs in his life are his buddies and the pub that they are partners in. He kept his interactions with woman short and casual and that was working well for him until Mallory came to town.

Mallory has moved to town to create a new and better life for her and her daughter Lizzie. Getting the job at the pub was exactly what she needed, and her head knows that getting involved with her boss is a recipe for disaster, but her heart doesn’t seem to agree.

It wasn’t long before mother and daughter captured Walker’s heart. Seeing the relationship unfold between Mallory and Walker was so much fun and I am look forward to more stories in this locale. The narrators were a great match for the characters as well as the story. 🎧 Pink Flamingo Productions

I am in love with Lacey Black's writing! The Burgers and Brew Crue is nothing short of amazing. Loyal to each other, they work together to make the best opportunities they can. But there is more to them than just work. They have each other's backs and are a family. Walker is a tough cookie. He has one rule, and that is not to date the employees, but when Mallory walks in and becomes his next waitress, all bets are off. Between their incredible attraction and her adorable daughter Lizzie, he is sold. But what will become of this couple? Mallory comes with a lot of baggage, and trust is something she does not give lightly. Walker is that over protective alpha male that is impossible not to love. But the true star of this book is Lizzie. She captures everyone's heart! I loved this romance, the family feel, and the camaraderie. It was a great listen.

PJ Morgan and Scott Rose are our story tellers and they are fabulous. Bringing these characters alive, each with their own personality and using the nuances to let their feelings come through is no easy feat. But they do it, bringing the listener straight in and giving us all the feels. It was wonderful.

I love a hood single mom story and this one didn’t disappoint! Walker is the epitome of the reluctant MC who fights his attraction until her realizes it’s futile and falls hard and fast for mom and daughter. Such a sweet cute listen.
