About this listen

A genre-bending story told entirely through interviews about a reality TV crime show that follows a missing girl in America: Cara Hunter meets Serial by way of The Appeal.

THE NATION IS OBSESSED. WHAT HAPPENED TO SARA?

A MISSING GIRL

On a crisp April morning, Sara Parcell disappears without a trace. No one saw a thing.

A NATIONAL OBSESSION

Desperate, her family agree to take part in a reality TV show following Sara's case. Cameras swarm the house. Viewers tune in. The addiction begins...

A HIDDEN AGENDA

As the show gains traction, what began as a small-town crime becomes a global sensation. Everyone who knew Sara is questioned on camera - but the producers want more. Hungry for twists, they delve deeper into the story - and soon, it takes on a life of its own.

Where is Sara? What do her family know? And how far will any of us go to create a good show?

Interesting, twisty, though far-fetched story with some suspension of disbelief required. The different (unreliable) narrators I think probably worked better in print. I found them saying their name at the start of each short narrative section repetitive and distracting. Otherwise the performances were mostly very good.

Entertaining take on voyeuristic true crime entertainment

I really enjoyed the format of this book and how the story unfolded through various perspectives. Great performances from the cast, and a nice twist at the end.

Engrossing

This book was actually dramatised with superb voice actors. The story captures the zeitgeist and left me thinking about it afterwards- excellent!

Superb book- gripping and thought- provoking

The cast was amazing. I give them 5 stars on their performance. Unfortunately, the story wasn't as good and, frankly, the message condescending.

Good Audiobook, mediocre story

A typical crime novel but delivered in an original way that works particularly well in audiobook format. Reminded me of True Crime Story by Joseph Knox, which is also excellent.
