Lie Down with Lions was very exciting

Ken Follett wrote a very exciting story that was beautifully narrated and really exciting in parts. It was the story of two spies who were in love with the same woman who in herself was an extraordinary character. Most of it takes place in Afghanistan, and I learned a lot about life there through reading this. It was also a real love story and was well resolved. I highly recommend this audible book

Edge of the seat stuff .......

Exciting storytelling, true Ken Follett style and detail. Narration by Emma Fenney was excellent, kept me on the edge of my seat until the end, excellent.

Spoilt by the graphic sex scenes

Again, a great story spoiled by the author’s insistence on adding unnecessary sex scenes. Why?

Makes you wish Ellis would push Jane off a cliff

The narrator is mainly to blame for this wish, but not totally. One of Follett's poorest books.

Great adventure story

Really enjoyed the story.
Good characters and of course a good villain. Kept me guessing as to what was going to happen. The narrator seemed a little stilted or edited when putting on certain accents but I felt overall very satisfied

Interesting novel set in Afghanistan

I enjoyed this novel, not least for the perspective of Afghanistan during the period that the Russians were fighting the war rather than the Americans. However it was spoiled for me by a lengthy part of a chapter that had cringeworthy descriptions of sex between two of the protagonists. There is (in my view) extensive use of the c*** word, and I think a lot of the description verges on sexist. Of course, I speak as a women reading the work of a male author, but I couldn't help feeling that he was writing out some of his own fantasies.
I think that the narrator was excellent, particularly in her reading of the passages that I have mentioned.
Ken Follett writes great yarns and has no need to 'enhance' his books in this way. Definitely less is more!

Shame about the unnecessary sex scene

I’ve always enjoyed Ken Follett’s books. But he let himself down here by including a lengthy, graphic sexual encounter. I am no prude but this just came across pornographic, sexist, male titillation. It unnecessarily interrupted the pace and story. Sadly I have lose respect for the author.
