About this listen
Vicious interstellar conflict with an indestructible alien species. Bloody civil war over the last habitable zones of the cosmos. Political unrest, militaristic police forces, dire threats to the solar system...
Humanity is on the ropes, and after years of fighting a two-front war with losing odds, so is Commonwealth Defense Corps officer Andrew Grayson. He dreams of dropping out of the service one day, alongside his pilot girlfriend, but as warfare consumes entire planets and conditions on Earth deteriorate, he wonders if there will be anywhere left for them to go.
After surviving a disastrous spaceborne assault, Grayson is reassigned to a ship bound for a distant colony - and packed with malcontents and troublemakers. His most dangerous battle has just begun.
In this sequel to the best-selling Terms of Enlistment, a weary soldier must fight to prevent the downfall of his species...or bear witness to humanity’s last, fleeting breaths.

Excellent story and good narration.

This is great sci fi, not quite space opera but the series as a whole certainly builds up to one.
My main gripe is really just the narrator. He only has a handful of different voices and his choices about where to apply them seem completely random. For me the worst is Chief Kofka, who he gives that stupid higher pitched overly done new Yorker accent. For someone who's read the books and knows how important the Chief will become, this really annoyed me.
Another bizarre choice was Contestable Guest. Someone who's described as an absolute unit of a man, to which the narrator gives a vaguely feminine, soft voice. What's even weirder is that I've started listening to the next book and he gives the same character a deep, gruff Texan accent that sounds much more appropriate.
I know I'm probably alone in this, but I find this narrator vaguely irritating and am listening on purely because I know how good the stories are.
Narrator's limited range of voices
