About this listen

Inherited magic. A secret neighborhood. And... a formidable Homeowner's Association?

Recent graduate Mathias Mandrake's life takes a turn when an unexpected inheritance of a distant relative's manor falls right into his lap. However, this home across the country comes with a condition: Mat cannot live there alone. Good thing his best friend Frankie is ready to leave behind his lackluster trail of midnight trysts for a more suburban life.

Eager to hone in his dilf-hunting skills, his bags are packed and ready to go before Mat can finish signing the paperwork. Completing this trio is August, for whom the idea of living with newfound friends away from the hustle and bustle of city life is, honestly, a dream come true. Not only that, but it's a perfect setting to finally finish that novel they've been working on.

Mandrake Manor is a whimsical tale full of mystery and mayhem as well as an abundance of queer joy through found family, budding romance, lots of sass, and light spice.

Cozy magical mystery

I love a cozy queer story and Mandrake Manor gives us cozy, quaint, paranormal vibes with a side of mystery and trouble.

It’s about three best friends who move into Mandrake Manor when they are all in need of a change and Mathias inherits it in mysterious circumstances, with some strange requirements.

And things just keep getting stranger once they move in. Not to mention one very demanding HOA.

As mysteries are revealed and the magic of the community is revealed, love also starts to bloom.

It was a fun story and the audiobook was well done by narrator Kirt Graves (which was to be expected - he’s a talent). I found it a little difficult to follow all the characters, as it’s not focused on just one relationship as is traditional, but that’s more an issue with my ADHD! I really liked the idea of the story being ensemble.

very entertaining

Excellent narration, with the right amount of drama for me.
Story - 4 stars. Very interesting world building with lots of plot twists. A place with magic and lots of different creatures combined with a HOA with an evil leader had enormous potential. The queer representations and growing relationships were really nice. However, it didn't quite feel finished although the main plots were resolved, I hope that there will be a sequel, particularly for Mat. The poems at the start of each chapter were a nice addition.

Beautiful story

Found this recommended on tiktok (not booktok- not spicy enough for booktok) and I was feeling the need for a clean read featuring boy witches with a charmed meets Schitts creek vibe and this delivered. I love the story of the three witches and their developing romances. The narrator was perfect and the story was great. It felt a little rushed in some places but overall I adored it. Hoping for a sequel!!

Easy read!

Loved the characters, it was such an easy read and so easy to get sucked in to the story! Not too many things happening at once meant it was easy to follow the storyline and I was invested from very early on.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Mandrake Manor

Okay I have to admit I struggled to get into the story to begin with, it was a little hard to figure out what was happening at times but it was still very good. The more action that happened in the book, the more I became hooked. I did enjoy the story a lot once I got into it and how all the characters played a role in something, along with a few plot twists throughout.

Something a bit different

I like the intro's to each chapter, that is not common for the books I usually listen to. For me this added to the magical/ fanatasy tone of the book.
The three main characters are housemates who to turn out to have a bit extra. This story with a queer cast along the spectrum was entertaining and captivating with a very low heat. They have to band together with others to keep and protect what they just gained. This storyline ends in general. My only slight gripe is the true end. I want to know more, but seem to be unable to find a follow up in the author's written catalogue. Truely enjoyed this one.

Narration:
Kirt does what he does well. Giving it that bit more and making me forget the time.
