About this listen

Random House presents the audiobook edition of Master and Apprentice by Claudia Gray, read by Jonathan Davis.

An unexpected offer threatens the bond between Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi as the two Jedi navigate a dangerous new planet and an uncertain future.

A Jedi must be a fearless warrior, a guardian of justice, and a scholar in the ways of the Force. But perhaps a Jedi’s most essential duty is to pass on what they have learned. Master Yoda trained Dooku; Dooku trained Qui-Gon Jinn; and now Qui-Gon has a Padawan of his own. But while Qui-Gon has faced all manner of threats and danger as a Jedi, nothing has ever scared him like the thought of failing his apprentice.

Obi-Wan Kenobi has deep respect for his Master, but struggles to understand him. Why must Qui-Gon so often disregard the laws that bind the Jedi? Why is Qui-Gon drawn to ancient Jedi prophecies instead of more practical concerns? And why wasn’t Obi-Wan told that Qui-Gon is considering an invitation to join the Jedi Council—knowing it would mean the end of their partnership? The simple answer scares him: Obi-Wan has failed his Master.

When Jedi Rael Aveross, another former student of Dooku, requests their assistance with a political dispute, Jinn and Kenobi travel to the Royal Court of Pijal for what may be their final mission together. What should be a simple assignment quickly becomes clouded by deceit, and by visions of violent disaster that take hold in Qui-Gon’s mind. As Qui-Gon’s faith in prophecy grows, Obi-Wan’s faith in him is tested—just as a threat surfaces which will demand that Master and Apprentice come together as never before, or be divided forever.

Claudia Gray - Amazing as always

I have been highly anticipating this book for months now and I could not wait to finally have this... and it did not disappoint! While not as perfect as Lost stars, the story between Qui-Gon and Obi wan is brilliant, however, Jonathan Davies can be a bit boring and dull in his performance, even to the point where you can't tell whether he's speaking for a male or female character, you can easily see that he gets voices mixed up but he still tries.
His performance for qui-Gon is actually quite amazing but for some reason he gave obi wan an Irish/Scottish accent and it's just weird
Either way, While it may not be have been as great as Lost stars, I'd highly recommend this book/audiobook for any fan of star wars

Beautiful Story

Love this book. Read the physical one on release, decided to re-experience it through the audiobook. Jonathan Davis does such a good Qui-Gon impression, and his Rael is very accurate to his appearance in Dooku: Jedi Lost too. The actual story of Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan learning to respect each other as people, and as Master and Apprentice is beautiful to hear unfold. If you're a fan of Qui-Gon. Obi-Wan or even Dooku, you owe yourself a listen of this.

Good book and reading - bad sound effects

This was a really enjoyable novel which fleshed out the characters of Obi Wan and Qui Gon beautifully and in line with both Canon and Legends material. The narrator was excellent.

However the sound effects were too many, too loud and about as helpful as a bicycle is to a fish.

I wish Audible and/or Lucasfilm would pick up on how many Star Wars book fans really dislike this. I would buy practically everything Audible had in the Star Wars franchise if they stopped sound effects altogether. As it is I only buy the books I already completely love in print editions.

Great Story

Really enjoyable finding out more about the early relationship of two Jedi favourites in a well written and read story.

Probably the best of the new canon yet!

As a nerd and a Star Wars fan, I have lost count of the number of times people have told me "It's not a real" as a way of diminishing any possible validity to the lessons it teaches. Wisdom and logic would suggest to hear the lesson and judge a work on that rather than the method in which it is distributed.
In this book, the author more effectively deals with the topic of slavery, its moral and ethical impacts and the traumatic affects it has on all who come into contact with it than almost any other novel I have EVER read or heard of. If not for the words Star Wars emblazoned on its cover this book would be thought of as insightful and as a must read, sadly it is over looked and dismissed as "for children".
If you love sci-fi or Star Wars, but also have any interest in works that challenge social concepts such as slavery on new yet easy to digest ways, I strongly urge you to give this book a try. It is heartbreaking in its accuracy.
