About this listen

This book explores what every dog owner knows – that a dog is never just a dog. They are our companions, best friends, members of the family and for some the most important part of our lives.

Our ability to make meaningful connections with other animal species and their ability to return the favour is, perhaps, never more beautiful than the bond we have with dogs.

Si Wooler, trainer to social media’s most famous fearful dog, Sophie from Romania, unlocks the heart of the special relationship we have with dogs. He explores how over millennia, they have inveigled their way into our homes and hearts and evolved to live alongside us. He explains how dogs learn (and why they sometimes seem immune to our efforts to train them), how they communicate and what influences the powerful bond they form with their people. He unpacks the problems of fear and reactivity and with insight and humour acts as a guide for all dog lovers navigating life’s changes and challenges.

Demystifying the science of dog behaviour and debunking the sticky myths that all too often can get in the way of understanding, this is a celebration of the joy of life with dogs in all its messy, loveable reality.

Wonderful informative read

Si puts behaviour in easy to learn under stable words for the dog owner. The case studies were heartfelt and beautifully told. The book had me feeling for the situations, enlightening aha moments, moving and I didn’t want it to end.

Very technical

I've made it to chapter four but it's not for me. Although my hobby has always been connection with your dog I found this book unutterably boring.

Wonderful Listen to a subject close to my heart

I don’t dislike anything about this book. I really like the way it is written (and read) and the obvious desire of Simon Wooler to help both the digs and the dog owner. It is excellent and I highly recommend it to any dog lover / owner as a must listen or read.

Doesn't work as audio book

Very interesting, though somewhat padded. I couldn't get beyond the first third of the recording as it introduces some quite complex concepts and then goes back to rather waffley statements which don't reinforce the complex ideas. This would be much better reading the physical book where you can flick back and forth to check on the ideas. I have ordered the book as the topic is fascinating for a dog lover. Note added later - the book is actually poor, wish I hadn't wasted my money.
