About this listen
The peace of a Midlands village is upset when local businessman Harry Bowers doesn’t return from choir practice.
More concerned than the man’s own wife, it would seem, investigating officer Detective Sergeant Sunita Roy becomes convinced he has been done away with.
But there is no trace of the man, just a litany of evidence of an ailing marriage and a nose-diving business venture.
In charge of her first serious case, DS Roy will struggle to win the respect of her colleagues—in particular her Brummie boss, DCI Gavin Roscoe. All that whilst fighting off the intentions of an increasingly desperate suitor.
Who had it in for the budding chorister? And is Roy tough enough to break down the defences and prejudices of Middle England?

Okay
I listened to this purely because of the narrator and I'm left slightly disappointed. General story quite good but general competency of the police was questionable, not really having any clue of the culprit till right at the very end. The side story of the stalker didn't really seem convincing. Average but would try another.

Well read and a gripping believable story line.
Very well written and a good story. Listened to it all day. Certainly would recommend this title.

Reasonable story, strange narration
I enjoyed this book to an extent but it was very average. I found the narration odd- all of the female voices sounded weak and pathetic, especially Sunita and I think if I’d read the book, I’d have imagined much stronger female voices. The Brummie accents were like cariacatures, horrible. The timing of the narration was off too and some emphasis seemed to be on the wrong part of the sentence. The writing wasn’t great, lots of descriptions of clothes, food and furniture! Unnecessary and dull. The dialogue, for current times, was strangely old fashioned and on that note, the names of youngish characters were not contemporary- Margaret, Dorothy, Derek!! More suited to the 1950’s! I did like the diversity in terms of gender, and ethnicity of characters but some overt sexism crept in ‘you seem so young for a sergeant, my dear’ says the older male character to Sunita - would he have said that to a male sergeant? All in all, it was okay but not great.

Quite a poor story
The rapid performance of the narration was odd. Story was weak with unneeded info the settings.

Accents
Being a Brummie lass it was lovely to hear references to local places, especially as I used to live on Cateswell Road! The accents were distinct that brought the characters to life although I found the Birmingham accents a little over emphasised. Good story line.

Steady looking listen
No real suspense. It was a good listen not a great misdirection element to the plot. the killer was a bit bland and the motivation for the killing not original. I hung in there for the narration.
