"Hey, Green Eyes"
Story:
Trixie enjoys to cheat. She selects and dates her lovers because of their cash and couldn't care less, if they are married or not. Once she lays her hands on their money, they get dumped and she is off to find and seduce her next victim.
When she hooks up with a male (and destroys his marriage) where the wife has a voodoo practising relative, she is in for a nasty surprise.
The angry woman turns her into a black cat and places her in an animal shelter.
Luckily cat Trixie is soon adopted by a cute girl, Annabelle, and her mother.
Of course, our black feline's most pressing problem is to undo the spell, but what is a cat to do?
Redemption for her deeds is the clue and that's where handsome Remy, the neighbour next door, comes in.
His girlfriend is as nasty, as they come, and carelessly cheats on him and what's more, she has an evil plan in store for our enthusiastic and pretty naive chef Remy.
Trixie feels like looking at herself in a mirror, when she watches how Remy is treated by the love of his life and decides, something has to be done to help the poor guy.
But how?
What could she possibly do, considering she is now only a totally and utterly harmless small cat.....right?
Narration:
Barbara Goldie is superb when she gives 10 year old Annabelle a voice. It's so cute and completely believable.
Sadly, apart from those highlights, I found her narration often a bit rushed and I lost concentration a few times and had to stop and go back to pick up the story thread.
Overall:
The story is told from a cat's POW and I absolutely loved it. It's done very well and believable and funny, and of course, every chapter has to start with a "Meow".
The police solves the case too fast and too easy for my liking. They certainly don't work and gain information by the speed of a cat being chased by a very fierce dog, but I can live with that, because I like Trixie (as a cat, mind you), and I like Annabelle.
I hope, there will be at some point a second part of Nine Lives. Even if the story works well as a standalone, I would still love to hear, what Trixie is up to next and if the chemistry between her and Remy grows and if she can live up to her "Nine Lives"destiny.

A story of redemption!
Tricksy has been turned into a cat. She must now navigate her life in her new form and find redemption for her sins.
I think it is truly clever how the author done a human mind in a cats body! I cannot wait for the next instalment of Tricksy's story!

Nine Lives
For such a short listen, you really get a great story. I love the inner monologue throughout this book and the way it ended was perfect and will definitely have me looking for the next book.

Cat Investigations
The synopsis for Nine Lives was vague enough that I wanted to know more to find out if it was worth my while. It was. Trixie is a woman, now a cat because she messed with the wrong family by stepping out with a married man. Trixie gets adopted by a single parent and finds that she's also picked up the inquisitive nature of her new species, which leads to her investigating the neighbours. To say anything more would give away the plot and that would be a shame as being a short read, there is not much time to develop layers.
I admired Trixie for her honesty - being turned into a cat, gave her a reality check. She sounded pretty unlikable (to me) when ruminating on what got her turned into a cat and I am sure in part, was what drove her to be a wandering cat, trying to right a wrong.
“The things we dislike most in others are the characteristics we like least in ourselves". Marian Keyes
I felt the story was a little simplistic and characters not as well developed as they could have. For the life of me I couldn't understand the oblivious natures of some of the characters but let it slide as it helped achieve a satisfying conclusion. That said I do want to find out more about Trixie’s adventures and if she will ever get turned back into a human.
The narration was good, though I thought it sounded echoey in places, even on headphones and via bluetooth speaker. The variation in voices was fair, though for some inexplicable reason I expected a stronger regional accent.
My thanks for a free copy in return for a candid review.

Interesting premise
Interesting premise, reasonably well executed. This is clearly one short story intended to form part of a wider arc. To be fair, it's not really my kind of thing. Would recommend to older teens who like the premise.
