About this listen

Once upon a time, in a more carefree life, I met a man. Our gazes connected over the top of his newspaper as he watched me suffer through the most embarrassing moment of my life. Older, sophisticated, and so very hot, he saved me from that awkward encounter, then tried to send me away with a pat on my head. But I wasn’t going anywhere—and the rest, as the saying goes, is history...passionate, heart-stopping, the night-of-my-life kind of history. There was just one tiny problem: I lied to him.

I told him I was a tourist and only in town for one night. So he wasn’t too impressed when I turned up again...in his Scottish castle—yes, his freakin’ castle—with his killer suit traded for a kilt and his seductive smile for a frown. When he glowers my way, I don’t know if I should be worried or turned on—because the Duke of Dalforth has secrets he’s not sharing...and a brother who’d like nothing more than to cut in on him.

When I do the wrong thing for the right reason, I have to believe it’ll work out in the end...because the duke is No Ordinary Gentleman and I’m just a normal girl, fighting not to fall in love with him.

Not an ordinary romance, I loved reading the book and now I can listen to it brought to life. Aria and Will do a fabulous job of giving voice to Holland and Sandy. The one liners are as ever hilarious and I always have a smile on my face as I read/listen to any of Donna Alam’s creations.
This book also introduces us nicely to Isla, Sandy’s sister who has her own story in ‘Love + Other Lies’ so we get to catch up with Holland and Alexander. Definitely worth the credit in audible.

This was a great book. It had everything - drama, tension, spice, mystery, a swoony Scottish Duke, a feisty heroine and a twist right at the end. I now cannot wait to get stuck into Isla and Van’s story.

The narration was fabulous, great accent work. Both Aria Holland and Will Watt did an amazing job bringing these characters to life.

This books has everything!

Loved the story line and the humour, which made me laugh out loud. Both narrators are excellent.

An enjoyable listen.

This was the first of Donnas books that I read and the Audible complements it perfectly. The narrators are both brilliant; very experienced with accents.

Fabulous, just like the book

Why oh why do narrators who can’t do a Scottish accent get the part? The female reader was inconsistent: there were some Irish in there and how did no-one correct her on the pronunciation of the Scottish name Isla: it isn’t Iz-Lar, which she said about 90% of the time….
It was hard to get past it and into the story, it was that annoying.
Another wasted credit. Don’t bother.

(I’m not convinced the other reviewers who thought the readers were “excellent” were listening to the same version?????!)
Edit: I wrote this before I got to the end: it didn’t improve.

Appalling Scottish scent from female narrator
