About this listen

The thrilling follow-up to the New York Times best-selling novel One Second After.

Months before publication, One Second After was cited on the floor of Congress as a book all Americans should have, a book discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a truly realistic look at the dangers of EMPs. An EMP is a weapon with the power to destroy the entire United States in a single act of terrorism in a single second; Indeed, it is a weapon that the Wall Street Journal warns could shatter America. One Second After was a dire warning of what might be our future... and our end.

One Year After returns to the small town of Black Mountain and the man who struggled to rebuild it in the wake of devastation: John Matherson. It is a thrilling follow-up and should delight fans in every way.

Good sequel

What did you like most about One Year After?

Took the story of one second after forward. But very annoyingly a different narrator... which detracts from the feeling of continuation.

What other book might you compare One Year After to, and why?

The postman... trying to rebuild civilisation

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Enjoy is perhaps the wrong word... but accepting the remains of the reavers into the community was very memorable.... but the ending felt too contrived... I was begining to think that the small band of college school kids had increased 10 fold .

Any additional comments?

The return of hopless career politicians after everything folk have suffered in the first book is so annoying... but actually so likely to be true!

Fantastic Sequel

I loved One a Second After which precedes this book and enjoyed One Year After just as much. I would suggest though that it would not make too much sense without reading One Second After first which explains in detail about the disaster which has befallen the earth and background to all the characters. I have seen some reviewers complaints about the narrator's Southern accent, but I didn't have a problem with it. Maybe because I'm not American!
Couldn't wait to finish it but now I want more. Here's hoping that it will become the second of three, or maybe four?

not bad but lacks action

this series is not one of my favourites as it is always based around one town amd the characters don't change much plus there is not much action. not my favourite but it is a good read. I'd like to say couldn't put it down but that would be a lie.

Good listen but not as good as the first

I really enjoyed the first of these books but unfortunately this one didn't keep me as interested. I felt like i didn't get to know any of the characters and therefore didn't really have an emotional response to anything that happened to them as much. I also don't have much knowledge of the American government so didn't quite understand some of the information. The reading was good and I'm glad to have found out more of what happened to the told after reading one second after.

absolutely brilliant !!

the first book in the wonderful triology by William R Forchstein, I don't think I've listened to a better trio of books, I really loved the writing and cared about the characters, it had me in tears quite a few times, the story was absolutely believable and also quite scary in its reality, yes ...a superb book !!
