Summary

I was whole once, with my boys in this slice of paradise we’d carved out for ourselves, but in the time that we were parted we grew up. Grew apart. And as much as I might have yearned to reclaim that girl with the sand between her toes and the sun on her cheeks, it’s time I admit that I spent too long in the shadows to ever truly be her again.
My heart may be breaking for the men I left behind, but I know that I can make that pain count for something, because I’m no fool believing the pretty promises of a mad man. No. I’m the assassin he just opened his fortress to.

F#ING SHAUN!!!
oh I laughed so much at some the moments. JJ meets his dad and this leads to some hilarious realisation! And his talk with Mama, omfg. He redeemed himself, he is so sweet sometimes.
Fox, man snap out of it!!! I want to shake sense into him. but by the end of this book, I can't find it in myself to hate him. He is so...bless him.
Rick, he just wants to find his place!
Chase, oh he is so sweet!!!
Mutt, I love that puppy !
oh the spice in this book increases another level. Mmmm a little MMF, yes indeed! and so many moments, so many smutty hot moments 😍

Unwillingly, shoved of the immense cliff!
What??!! WHAT!!!!!!!!! What was that ending?!!! I have been very unwillingly and thoroughly shoved of the immense cliff that is at the end of the book. AhhHH!! How could these evil authors end the book there??!! My heart is in tatters and I honestly don't think my blood pressure is ever coming down. This is one of the worst cliffhangers they've ever left us with and I don't think anyone could have predicted that they would leave it there. There's so much action and things happening that makes it one incredible adrenaline inducing rollercoaster of a ride.
-That I love you, Rogue Easton. I've been so irrevocably and helplessly in love with you for so long that I let it twist me up inside. I let it turn me cruel and jaded and so fucking angry because ..."
This is the quote that stuck with me whilst reading and not just because my favourite character says this. The writing is off the charts with how good it is and the character growth for all our beloved characters is amazing. I have never connected with the characters in a book more than I have with Rogue and her boys. I just love them all so much, especially Chase.
Our favourite characters are really put through the wringer on more than one occasion and none more than Rogue. At the end of Carnival Hill Rogue was in Shawn's clutches once more and he really does a number on her. She tries really hard to block him out but he just has this knack of pinpointing their worst fears and insecurities. Weaving a web of lies, Shawn casts doubts against her boys, lodging himself deeply under her skin.
There is only one conclusion to come to after reading Paradise Lagoon and that is that Shawn Mackenzie needs to die!!! The most horrible and gruesome death these authors can think off!!!! *screams in anger and frustration* Honestly, just when you think there's nothing worse he can do he tops it like he's in some kind of competition and he's determined to win the prize. The only prize he will win though is the unbridled hatred of all who read this book.
Even poor Mutt has his own trials to overcome which makes everything worse. What sick person goes after a dog??? Unfortunately for Fox, Mutt is still holding a grudge. But despite the bad there is a lot of good to be found its just hidden. JJ, Rick and Rogue get some very unexpected surprises, one I figured out but two that completely blindsided me. Overall, an amazing listen and the narrators Jake and Bridget just made that astonishing heart-racing ending that much more emotional!

Was that ending a joke?
Omg I can’t even believe how that book just ended! I’m writing this review fresh in the pain of the last 10% of the book!!!!
Another fantastic book by these brutal queens! Can’t wait to get to Gallows Bridge to see how it all ends!
Amazing performances by Bridget and Jake! I honestly wish they could do the audio for all my favourite books!

Bittersweet
I (sadly) ended up going back to reading the books instead of listening to the audio. The story is great! However, Chase's chapters felt very shouty and rushed to me. Listening to Jake imitating a woman's voice just didn't do the story justice. Never have I given these author sisters a bad review but I felt I needed to be honest here. Absolutely adore the story, but will stick to reading this series instead. Respectfully and with much love.
