About this listen

Paul Temple swings into the Sixties in these five complete radio dramas starring Peter Coke and Marjorie Westbury – plus bonus archive material

Paul Temple and the Gilbert Case (1960): A dead girl's father is sure the police have placed the wrong man in the gallows. This 1960s remake version is published for the first time.

Paul Temple and the Margo Mystery (1961): The suave sleuth tries to connect his wife's kidnapping with a body dressed in an expensive designer coat.

Paul Temple and the Jonathan Mystery (1963): After meeting an American couple on a flight, Paul Temple is soon investigating another murder in this 1963 remake.

Paul Temple and Geneva Mystery (1965): A woman thinks her late husband is still alive – and someone would prefer Paul Temple dead...

Paul Temple and the Alex Affair (1968): The debonair detective investigates three murders, all linked to the mysterious and elusive 'Alex'.

This volume also includes the bonus 2005 radio feature Peter Coke and the Paul Temple Affair, introducing the man behind radio's smoothest and most sophisticated sleuth. Actor Peter Coke talks to Michaela Saunders about how he got the part, what he thinks of his famous catchphrase and more.

Caution: these programmes contain language that may cause offense, and dated attitudes that reflect the age in which they are set.

Old time radio plays are the best

Original Paul Temple radio plays are the best of dramatic narration. Perfect acting, good storyline, believable characters - it's set in the 50th were murder is still shocking. I am absolutely addicted to this old-fashioned way of entertainment. Wish there were more of them...

More exciting adventures with Paul and Steve

Another round of exciting adventures with Paul and Steve. Being a child in the 60's I do remember that it was still pretty much a 'man's world' but the way Paul still treats Steve as if she's an imbecile is really quite annoying. It's rather refreshing when she gets her own back occasionally. That being said, if you can look past that, these radio plays are really rather enjoyable.

By Timothy!

By Timothy, one was thoroughly hooked on this charming series. Was absolutely angry that it came to an end, but loved the bonus interview with Peter Coke ☺️

Another great collection!

I loved this collection too - more of the same formula but just as much fun and equally great acting and scene setting.

fascinating glimpse into the past

This series really takes you back in time to a completely different way of life, albeit the domain of the priveleged few. I enjoyed having to use my imagination regarding the actors, the scenes, special effects etc. There were also comedic moments, some unintentional, which added to the enjoyment. I shall certainly look at earlier volumes, I think I'm hooked!
