Summary

Persuasion, Jane Austen's final novel, follows the romance of Anne Elliot and naval officer Frederick Wentworth. They were happily engaged until Anne's friend, Lady Russell, persuaded her that Frederick was "unworthy". Now, eight years later, Frederick returns, a wealthy captain in the navy, while Anne's family teeters on the edge of bankruptcy. They still love each other, but their past mistakes threaten to keep them apart.

Terrible

This audiobook must be read by a robot, or at least has been tampered with in some way or another. It goes way too quickly to listen to. You'll waste your money.

Dreadful narrator rushed

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I have since bought the Juliet Stevenson version which is wonderful this is my favourite book on the planet and to have it spoiled was very sad. I will give the Stevenson version 5 stars

What did you like best about this story?

As I said favourite book on the planet - I love the Austen books

What didn’t you like about Peta Johnson’s performance?

Very rushed almost gabbled in parts and some of her pronunciation is not the accepted which is very jarring, not pleasant to listen to at all.

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

A wonderful story

Any additional comments?

I went back and bought the Juliet Stevenson version from you which is wonderful, she reads it beautifully, it is a pity that you can't return books that you hate because of poor reading

Classic story but irritating narration.

Persuasion is, of course, one of the great classic romantic novels of its time. However this 'performance' is poor. It's a computer generated voice that sounds English and yet mis-pronounces English names like Gloucester. Moreover the narration is monotonous in cadence and a little too fast.
