About this listen

The Number One Sunday Times Bestseller, written and read by Russell Brand.

This is the age of addiction, a condition so epidemic, so all encompassing and ubiquitous that unless you are fortunate enough to be an extreme case, you probably don't know that you have it.

What unhealthy habits and attachments are holding your life together? Are you unconsciously dependent on food? Bad relationships? A job that doesn't fulfill you? Numb, constant perusal of your phone, looking for what?

My qualification for writing this book is not that I am better than you, it's that I am worse. I am an addict, addicted to drugs, alcohol, sex, money, love and fame.

The program in Recovery has given Russell Brand freedom from all addictions and it will do the same for you.

This system offers nothing less than liberation from self-centredness, a new perspective, freedom from the illusion of suffering for anyone who is willing to take the necessary steps.

Very descriptive language and takes a little tuning in at first but that is how Russell speaks.
These are the days of change. He is right.

I have tried to read this a while ago but didn’t “get it” . Something changed in my life and a mate of mine said “try it again now” I did, and I totally got it. Now is the time. Thank you Russell

I have listened to this book many times in total, because it has touched me in ways that are hard to describe. Recovery is perhaps Russell Brand’s most raw and honest memoir yet, on the universality of the 12 step program to recovery. I am a sufferer, and through this book I am making my own improvements to my life. I am but one person who owes gratitude to the author.

On a separate note, I think the main reason that I have gotten so much out of this book is because it is so much more poignant to hear the author read it. It is far more moving than if I were to purchase the hard copy and read it.

A very moving account of addiction

It takes real guts to lay yourself on the line like Russell Brand does. The message is inspiring and timely but dispensed in his unique irreverant and poetic, self-deprecating style. I loved it. I hope it gets read widely. I'm sure there's plenty of 12 step programmes grateful for his take on the programme. It has inspired me to dig into my own insipid but self-damaging addictions. Thanks Russell.

Challenging, timely, intense, inspired

Really helped me understand the steps, loved his take on them, really great book, I tried to read the traditional 12 steps but wasn't for me, this however, really spoke to me.

fantastic

excellent

A great introduction to the 12-step programme which Russell used to turn his life around. Russell himself reading it really brought it to life, more than any other narrator would. He has his usual fast pace which is a little quick for this type of book so I found myself going back to the start on some chapters, but still great and engaging

An excellent insight

I found it so easy to relate to Russell's stories. It empowered me, both in self discovery and in change.

If life was a story, there's no better narrator

Russell managed to put a 12 step program in a way I could access (I’m not religious).

I have been giving up booze and am six months in. This has helped me stay on track and realise that I’ve replaced my addictions with others (Technology, food, shopping)
I am now applying this program to many areas on my life. Helpful, kind, honest and funny.

Thank you Russell.x
