Adair is a young journalist living in London. Overshadowing his childhood is the obsession his father, Doctor Brown, has with a medical conspiracy. If you enjoyed the first book, then this is for you. It is thoughtful, deep, and rich in content intertwining science, religion and philosophy.

This is not a linear sequel to the previous book, introducing new characters and settings. I initially found this jarring as it was difficult to see how it fit with the events of the previous book, although as the story developed this became clearer. The book lives up to the predecessor in the complexity of the themes and characters, exploring further the topics of parallel times and dimensions. However I found that this made the already complex story lines a little difficult to follow in places.
