Summary

TORN APART BY WAR. REUNITED BY LOVE?

The epic conclusion to the intensely romantic and beautifully written story that started in Divine Rivals.

Two weeks have passed since Iris returned home bruised and heartbroken from the front, but the war is far from over.

Roman is missing, lost behind enemy lines, with no memory of his past, or Iris. Hoping his memories return, he begins to write again – but this time for the enemy.

When a strange letter arrives through his wardrobe door, he strikes up a correspondence with a penpal who seems at once mysterious… and strangely familiar.

As their connection deepens, the two of them will risk their very hearts and futures to change the tides of the war.

Beautiful Story

“ Don’t judge a book by its cover”.
Except I did . And I avoided picking this book because I thought the cover was ugly and it looked too " YA " for me.
I am so glad I did finally read this story because it’s absolutely beautiful .

It is a low fantasy story set in an unspecified historical period, during a war , and follows Iris , an aspiring journalist.

I accept that some of criticisms of this book mourn the fact that the backdrop is of two gods at war, yet the story is set mostly away from the Front - but I loved it precisely for that reason.
It was a beautiful love story full of authentic feelings and angst during a very uncertain period. I liked the fact , that we experienced the war through the eyes of , first civilians, and later through the eyes of war correspondents. I liked that neither main character was a hero or in possession of unimaginable power.
The book conveyed feelings so very well that I was drawn into the story even without epic battles. The experience and uncertainty of war, of those left behind and away from the front was conveyed so beautifully and poignantly- it was just an exceptionally good read.

The fantasy elements and magic were really subtle and latent which worked very well here. The supporting characters were written well and with great depth and I enjoyed the ‘ cast ‘ immensely.
One of my favourite reads this year , so far !

emotional sequel

These two captivating characters in Roman and Iris continued to keep me glued to this story. The separation, war and letters did not disappoint. great narrator, dual POV.

The perfect end

What words can describe such perfection? Are there any?
For now, I'll leave just one.
A paragon.

Loved the fantasy/war like story

Loved the idea of a magic typewriter and the idea of the story, I really enjoyed the war like aspect just felt the love story was predictable and maybe could of done with a little spice within it

Could have been longer

The writing in this book is perfect and there was so much unexplored story that I’m lost that it was only a duology. It is a great follow up, I just wanted more.

I love the mix of historical and fantasy themes. I would have liked to have seen the stories of the wider characters explored and a third book for character development.
