Summary

The controversial first-hand account of what really happened in the south Atlantic skies.

Sharkey Ward commanded 801 Naval Air Squadron, HMS Invincible, was senior Sea Harrier adviser to the Command, flew over 60 missions and was awarded DSC. Yet had he followed all his instructions to the letter, Britain might well have lost the Falklands War.

His dramatic first-hand story of the air war in the South Atlantic is also an extraordinary, outspoken account of inter-service rivalries, bureaucratic interference and dangerous ignorance of the realities of air combat among many senior commanders.

As Sharkey Ward reveals, the 801 pilots were fighting not just the enemy, exhaustion and the hostile weather, but also the prejudice and ignorance of their own side.

Good story but hard to listen to.

The contents of Sea Harriers and the Falklands war is fantastic but it becomes hard to listen to Mr Ward continuously make reference to how amazing he is and how inferior everyone around him is. The ego of this man is incredible

Outstanding

The Fleet Air Arm did what the RAF could not. Transmission ends. Air cover at sea is non negotiable

Worst narration ever.

I have read this book before and decided to revisit it after listening to Seaking Down. Wow. The reader has the most monotonous staccato delivery ever. It sounds like Artificial Intelligence reading it and concentrating on equally spacing the syllables rather than reading it at a natural rhythm. I made it as far as the 2nd prologue before switching off. Note to self, listen to a clip before buying to see if the reader sounds like the onboard computer from a late 80s car.

The reap Air war over the Falklands

Compelling account of the air war brilliantly put together and showed the problems they faced between ships and the enemy

Excellent read.

Gives a great insight into carrier flying. The complexity of operating aircraft from sea and the air battles over and around the Falklands. Also a view on the politics I feel you would find in any large organisation.

Sea Harrier over the Falklands

This audio book should go down in history, its simply the best story, read by the robot from lost in space.
