About this listen

An ancient enemy stirs once more . . .

Seal of the Worm is the tenth and final book in the critically acclaimed epic fantasy series Shadows of the Apt by Adrian Tchaikovsky.

The Empire has vanquished its enemies at last, but at a terrible price. With her chief rival cast into the abyss, Empress Seda must face the truth of what she’s unleashed in her hunger for power. Now the Seal has been shattered, the ancient Worm stirs towards the light for the first time in a thousand years. Already it is striking at the surface, consuming everything in its voracious path. Unchecked, it will ravage the world.

As her victory seems hollow indeed, Seda knows that only the most extreme solution can lock the Worm in the dark once more. But if she’ll go to such horrific lengths to save them all from the Worm, who’ll save the world from her?

Start the epic journey with Empire in Black and Gold, the first book in the Shadows of the Apt series.

Critic reviews

Breathtaking scope and vision. Adrian Tchaikovsky is one of our finest writers (Gareth L. Powell, author of Embers of War, on Children of Ruin)
A joy from start to finish. Entertaining, smart, surprising and unexpectedly human (Patrick Ness, author of The Knife of Never Letting Go, on Children of Time)

Not quite as good as I had hoped the last book to be, doesn't change the fact it still wasn't enjoyable.

Ben Allen will be one I will watch out for narrating other stories. Probably one of the best I've heard so far.

Sad to see it end

Just finished and I am pretty much speechless. This whole series has been outstanding this book in particular, incredible. This book, for much of it was so intense in story, having many parallels to the real world atrocities of WWII meant it was a little emotionally hard to take at times, but the intensity made the ending all the more sweet. Great author, and great narrator. Thanks to both.

Wow, fantastic ending to an awesome series

Absolutely loved the whole decalogy. I have laughed, I have wept, I have cheered, I have cursed along with all my now become friends: Stan The Warmaster and all his dears, foes, comrades. I will miss extremely talented Ben's voice.

The shadow of the Apt world is vast in scope full of depth, mysteries and complete characters. The story does the world and characters justice. The performance by Ben Allan is the best I have had the pleasure to hear.

Excellent Performance of a engrossing story

This series is just incredible & deserved a great finale and this delivers. Massive credit to the narrator. He adds so much life to the characters in these audio books and brings it all to life

Great conclusion to an excellent series!

I admit I was worried about how this series was going to be wrapped up to end but my worries were unfounded.

Superb story,. Superb characters. And a conclusion that tied up every loose end.

The last sentence was the perfect ending.

I never thought I’d read another book series that reached double digits but it was recommended to me and it has Adrian Tchaikovsky’s name on the cover. Only the latter is the. only reason you need to invest the time required to start this.

I’m going to miss Stemold, Che, Tynesa, Thalric, Tisamon, Eujen, Straessa,Taki and everyone else.

Ben Allen’s performance has been faultless. Every character has been distinct and consistently played.

Perfect ending

The final addition to the Shadows of the Apt series masterfully shows Adrian Tchaikovsky's skill in creating worlds and culminates in a very entertaining and satisfying end.

An excellent end to an amazing series.

No words. What a truly fantastic series that ended in a very satisfying way. 10 books getting to know some outstanding characters brought to life by a mesmerisingly good voice actor/narrator was definitely time well spent. Adrian, I salute you.

Couldn’t wait to see how this epic ended…..now sad that it has.
