Summary

Razor-sharp, laugh-out-loud satire of social media's mega-rich from 'The Voice of the Cost-of-Living Crisis' @ShabazSays

The world is full of books about how to be rich. This is not one of them.

Today, many of us are feeling the pinch - and being bombarded with portrayals of social media 'perfection' is making that pinch feel more like a punch.

We may know that social media - with all its billionaires and beauty queens - is just a highlight reel. So why is it still making most of us feel so low?

Comedian Shabaz Ali wants to help you see the funny side of social media again. Because while it looks nice to live up in an ivory tower, this book reminds us that it is much more fun to be part of the baying mob that surrounds it.

This laugh-out-loud deep-dive into social media's ridiculously rich, will help you love your own penny-pinched, rough-around-the-edges, extraordinarily ordinary life.

Shabaz Ali (@ShabazSays) is a comedian and broadcaster who has built a large and dedicated audience with his withering take downs of those who package and present their 'perfect' lives online. When he's not online you can find Shabaz at his day job as a chemistry teacher in Blackburn.

You will laugh, cry, feel happiness & peace

When I tell you this book will bring you so much peace & happiness, I mean it. It’s an emotive description of a true shared experience for all not in the top 1%. it’s actually beautiful.

Funny and insightful

Shabaz is known online for his humour and for his opinions on excesses on social media. In this book he breaks down his thoughts on various aspects of social media with the humour that you would expect but also with thoughtfulness and depth that may surprise if you have only seen him in his oodie on TikTok. I loved the book, it had me laughing and thinking plenty.

Funny, informative and rallying.

A superb take on our modern lives and the more often unhealthy role of social media.
Funny, truthful and sharply observed.

Enjoyed every minute.

Bought the book and the audiobook (he has a stunning voice!) to go through at the same time. The first time I have ever done that. Shabaz has created a modern day masterpiece. Coming from Blackburn myself, I really appreciate all the Northern-ness that abounds in this book. I appreciate every bit of wisdom that is contained in this book! Cannot wait for more!

So relevant to today’s world and he touched on every import topic

I specifically chose the audiobook because I wanted to hear it in his voice. He did not disappoint. As well as being hilarious, he puts so many things into perspective and it’s so relatable. Absolutely loved it!
