Lieutenant-Colonel Sharpe, sidelined on the Royal staff, magnificently siezes command at the final moment of the great victory.

This is definitely one of my favourite of the Sharpe books, it’s so true to the real events of Waterloo and almost uses Sharpe as a lens in which we see the famous battle. Of course there are a few faithful “Sharpe” flares for stories purpose but as any fan of the series will agree: this is yet another masterful work of literature I would recommend from a rooftop!

Thousands of men have died in battle blindly following orders given by men who either bought their commissions or rose to command purely because of their royal birth. Waterloo was no exception and Bernard Cornwell's works of fiction is often based on fact. Brilliant narration.

I have been to Waterloo more than once and have a kitchen tile from Hogarth Farm still stained with blood on it's rear. I can not image how it felt to have been in the battle. But following Sharp brings it to new life and I am awre struck by the bravery of 'all' the men who where there twice as much thanks to this account of the actions. Next time I will see the field of Waterloo in a new and terrible light yet again.

what made this audible book for me was the obvious research that had gone into the book, having been to visit the Battlefield site on a trip through the area, the story and its locations came flooding back, excellent narration.

This is it, this is the peak of his story, it all ends here. A great story, really adding depth to the Sharpe series, I know there are a few more novels but I’m gutted I’m approaching the end, it’s been a long journey and I feel like I know the characters in a way that’s quite odd given it’s fiction.
