About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

The audiobook of Snuff is narrated by impressionist and actor Jon Culshaw, best known for BBC Radio 4’s Dead Ringers, and for the Doctor Who audiobooks and dramas. BAFTA and Golden Globe award-winning actor Bill Nighy (Love Actually; Pirates of the Caribbean; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) reads the footnotes, and Peter Serafinowicz (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace; Shaun of the Dead) stars as the voice of Death. Featuring a new theme tune composed by James Hannigan.

'THE JURISDICTION OF A GOOD MAN EXTENDS TO THE END OF THE WORLD.'

Commander Sam Vimes of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch is having some time off. Apparently.

But crime doesn't take a break - it's a truth universally acknowledged that a policeman on holiday would barely have time to open his suitcase before he finds his first corpse.

In the seemingly peaceful countryside, Vimes discovers much more than a body in the wardrobe. For the local nobles are hiding a deep, dark secret. There are many, many bodies - and an ancient atrocity more terrible than murder.

Vimes is out of his jurisdiction, out of his depth and out of his mind. But never out of ideas. Where there is a crime there must be a punishment.

They say that in the end all sins are forgiven. This might be the exception ...

Snuff is the eighth book in the City Watch series, but you can listen to the Discworld novels in any order.

The first book in the Discworld series - The Colour of Magic - was published in 1983. Some elements of the Discworld universe may reflect this.

Brilliant Narration

Jon Culshaw is a master of voices and brings Terry’s book to life. Had me hooked from beginning to end.

Excellent

This is an excellent story with Pratchett at his best. The performance significantly enhances the book, so that even readers familiar with the story can enjoy the retelling. Highly recommended!

Another winner from the master of serious humour

The storyline is justifiably fun and clever well written and narrated, the vivid details of somewhere slightly gross and disturbing but familiar makes it so entertaining

Gripping!

The narrator brings Commander Sir Samuel Vimes to life and Willikins was a revelation. A ‘Must Listen’ for Pratchett fans.

Return of the Dark!

Wonderful, gritty and still absolutely hilarious. Vimes back in action and honestly I love it. It’s a fitting last book for he commander. Vimes and Sybil are a true match made in heaven and she is so kick ass. Young Sam is awesome and honestly TP has done it again. I don’t think there’s been a book about Vimes where I haven’t cried at the beautiful writing and sensitive attention to detail of the character.

Another brilliant adventure

Having listened to the audio books in order, it has been interesting to see how the mindset of Vines has evolved and the way he has dealt with his inner turmoil.

Another excellent piece of enjoyable escapism!

Wonderful To Make Your Escape With!

I grew up stealing Discworld books from my brother, so I could read them in a day and put them back quickly! This audio rendition of Snuff gave me the voice of Sam Vimes, exactly how I’d imagined it. Exactly! Does anyone realise how bloody weird that is? Are you imagining it? For me, it’s even weirder than that! Mainly because of my insane crush on the fictional Commander. Ugh! Why are all the good men married, fictional or hiding something? In Sam Vime’s case, he’s all three! But I couldn’t and wouldn’t compete with Sybil…because she is lovely, perfect for Sam and also fictional, so it all makes sense. I would get out more, but then I’d have to leave my beloved Discworld and…‘people’ in a foul place called ‘reality’! People TALK to you! Even though you avoid eye contact and have bright turquoise coloured ear buds in…yap, yap, yap! Anyways, dear potential listeners, it’s worth your credit or hard earned pennies! Read the book too. It’s all worth it!!!

Brilliant!

Another fabulous Discworld story. Am so sad that it’s the last one in the City Watch arc.
Excellent performance by Jon C. He does all the different voices so well.
