About this listen

Strange Affair is the 15th novel in Peter Robinson's Inspector Banks series, following on from Playing with Fire.

When Alan Banks receives a disturbing message from his brother, Roy, he abandons the peaceful Yorkshire Dales for the bright lights of London to seek him out. But Roy seems to have vanished into thin air.

Meanwhile, DI Annie Cabbot is called to a quiet stretch of road just outside Eastvale, where a young woman has been found dead in her car. In the victim's pocket, scribbled on a slip of paper, police discover Banks' name and address.

Living in Roy's empty South Kensington house, Banks finds himself digging into the life of the brother he never really knew nor even liked. And as he begins to uncover a few troubling surprises, the two cases become sinisterly entwined....

Good story well paced

Enjoyed the plot and the characterisations. A good pace kept the story moving. Low mark for ‘performances’ I prefer not to have them. Inaccurate, intrusive and unnecessary- and in this case quite dated.

Excellent

Got engrossed in this despite having seen the TV version - the characters are so much deeper and the story more complex.

Good to have DCI Banks back again.

Having listened to all of the Banks series over the years it was refreshing to have Strange Affair come up after awhile away from Peter Robinson. I had watched it on the television a couple of times in the last 18 months but it's good to put a face to the character's as it were.
I did feel that Simon Slater's narration lost its way a bit, especially with his Caribbean and Asian accents sounding the same, Eastern European, Russians etc becoming rather comical at times. This however in no way really detracted from the fast moving action chapter after chapter.
Another first class action packed crime thriller from Peter Robinson.

Clever but not for me.

The story was too unlikely, poorly recorded and edited. Sadly, although a DCI Banks fan, this did not work.
