Summary
BRITISH BOOK OF THE YEAR: AUDIOBOOK WINNER 2024
Fern Brady was told she couldn't be autistic because she's had loads of boyfriends and is good at eye contact. This is a story of how being female can get in the way of being autistic and how being autistic gets in the way of being the 'right kind' of woman.

Absolutely, unabashedly fantastic. 500/5 stars.
I don’t normally leave reviews but for this book I just had to. I read this in one sitting. It’s rare to find such an honest and open account of an adult woman’s autistic experience, and as an autistic woman myself it’s a life-changing read. Thank you, Fern, from the bottom of my heart for writing this. To anyone reading this review- please read the book. It’s worth it.

Thank you!
As a 40-year-old make, I'm not the target audience for this book, but so much resonated and made sense of many things in my life.
Thank you, Fern, for writing this.

Amazing! Frank & heartfelt
Fern is an excellent narrator and her honesty is both refreshing and bold. This must become recommended reading for those (especially women & LGBT) who suspect they have, or have recently been diagnosed with, autism,

Fantastic book
I thought this was a brave book for Fern to write, given that her career is based on being in the public eye. Really insightful and I hope inspiring for other autistic women to take guidance from.

Incredibly insightful and funny at the same time.
Learned a lot about my own ASD daughter and have a lot more insight into how things possibly feel for them! Laughed a lot too which was a massive bonus.

Excellent and honest
Fern is unswervingly honest about the difficulties she's faced in every day life due to her autism. Despite tackling difficult subjects like self-injury there's a certain lightness to her manner. She tells it how it is. Would definitely recommend

interesting, bold and funny
Really enjoyed a look at her young adult life and growing up as an autistic woman. Loved how honest she was and really glad I went for the audiobook over reading it since it's so personal.
