About this listen
Fast-paced and suspenseful The Accident is perfect for fans of Before I Go to Sleep, Gone Girl and Sophie Hannah.
A gripping psychological thriller about the deadly secrets your children can keep …
Sue Jackson has the perfect family but when her teenage daughter Charlotte deliberately steps in front of a bus and ends up in a coma she is forced to face a very dark reality.
Retracing her daughter’s steps she finds a horrifying entry in Charlotte’s diary and is forced to head deep into Charlotte’s private world. In her hunt for evidence, Sue begins to mistrust everyone close to her daughter and she’s forced to look further, into the depths of her own past.
Sue will do anything to protect her daughter. But what if she is the reason that Charlotte is in danger?

Gripping
Held me spellbound from start to finish, highly recommended - slightly disappointed that we never got to find out if Charlotte came out of her coma

Hmm!
A bit “samey “! But that’s my fault for liking this genre. Sadly, I find all the “neurotic “ women books are beginning to merge into one.

Interesting
Great start: a youngster steps in front of a bus and is intensive care, comatose. Why?
I was intrigued by the back stories, but overall it was disappointing. Flaws in the plotting and characters weren't compelling. I wanted to enjoy this but struggled to finish.

Just managed to stay with it to the end.
I found it hard to acceptt that the weak-willed character of 20 years before, who tolerated the verbal and mental abuse of her partner, making endless excuses for his behaviour, could become the driven investigator into the cause of her daughter's accident. To suggest that the change took place because of a mother's love for her comatose child seems somewhat facile. Although there are some moments of tension in the novel, the author generates little excitement overall. Even the climax of the story in the final scene in the hospital is unlikely to the point of being laughable.
A disappointing read!

It's dark and made me squirm
Where does The Accident rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Middle of the road in terms of enjoyment, maybe because I didn't appreciate how dark it would be in places

The main character was so annoyingly stupid!
Any additional comments?
Such a disappointment, having first read The Missing by this author. Without giving too much away, I understand that abused women find it hard to get away, or be understood by other people etc. etc. but Sue missed every single opportunity going! She then perpetuated the problem by not divulging key information to loved ones 20 years later. The story was well narrated. I am sorry that I would not recommend it although knowing how wonderful The Missing was, I will try a new book by this author.

precis reads well but unfortunately misses
Would you try another book written by C.L. Taylor or narrated by Jenny Funnell?
no some parts were so slow and boring but I kept hoping for more but never got it. Other scenarios were so unbelievable that it was quite annoying and i felt it was over descriptive purely because the author felt it was necessary and it wasn't.
Has The Accident put you off other books in this genre?
slightly
Which scene did you most enjoy?
can't remember one that stood out i listened to this on a long car journey it whiled way the time but at the end i felt that i wished i had spent the time learning a language !
Could you see The Accident being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?
no seriously no
Any additional comments?
i would not recommend this book
