When a newspaper report of a medical miracle catches Matt's eye, he and India go in search of Dr. Hale in the hope he is more magical doctor than miracle worker and can lead them to Chronos. But Hale turns out to be an apothecary magician keen to educate the public about magic.

Their disappointment in not finding Chronos is soon forgotten when Hale is murdered, and Matt becomes a suspect. With Matt's nemesis Sheriff Payne influencing the investigating detective, India and Matt know they must find the real killer, or risk his freedom, and ultimately, his life. Time is running out as they hunt for a killer capable of turning medicine into poison with a magic spell, as well as continue the search for Chronos. A search that must end in success before Matt's malfunctioning watch stops altogether.

Good narrative by Marian Hussey who is constant and steady throughout the telling. Enjoying the continuation of the Glass and Steele story, and looking forward to the next book.

The story well researched and accents and impersonations excellent BUT there are terrible flaws in pronunciation of words Americans make mistakes with. This is British history. When a cultured English lady gets the pronunciation, for a well known British word like 'scone" to name but one, so completely wrong, it jars so badly, it screeches. There are many American expressions words and pronunciations discernible only to a British ear. I find this appalling when the author has researched well for her story. And the historical ambience is shattered by the flaws in narrating.

The saga continues as does the romantic tension between Matt and India. Twists and turns a plenty and a satisfactory conclusion that' leaves you begging for more.

I'm really enjoying this series and finding it addictive - although I am not really a fan of books that end on a 'cliffhanger'. The sexual tension between Matt and India is well written, but I find myself a little impatient for them to find a way to resolve their dilema - Matt's reluctance to commit until a cure for his affliction can be found and India's determination not to bring him down by encouraging him to marry 'beneath his station'. I do feel the story is beginning to drag a just a little, but that does not stop me from wanting to continue listening and each chapter finds me anxious to find out what happens next. The narration is superb, I feel Ms Hussey really gets into the character of India, and does an excellent job of conveying all the other characters too, especially as they are so diverse.

Another rip-roaring tale from CJ Archer. Great plot, and I love the way India is becoming her 'own woman'. Love the tension between the two main characters as they fight their feelings in a society where class rules. With stunning narration, bringing all the characters to life wonderfully, it's a fabulous 'read'

Mystery and Magic

Yes, it’s a new mystery with every new instalment but I got tired of waiting for a) something to develop a bit more between India and Matt, and b) to finally find the fox to his watch. When I saw that there are 12 books in the series I sort of deflated.
On the other hand, excellent writing and believable historical element to this. Interesting enough characters and good plot. Just too slow for me.
Audio narration is excellent too.
