About this listen

Downton Abbey meets Agatha Christie with a touch of Wodehouse and a dog of distinction.

Who killed Sir Crispin Gibbons? A wedding invitation and news of mischief that could be murder, takes Lennox to The Earl of Bloxford's country estate. He soon finds himself in a world of purloined artworks, forgeries and a priceless Bloxford Beauty. But who are the Bloxford Beauties? And why are they the focal point around which swirls death?

Lennox must confront life-long friends, unscrupulous artists and dealers to finally unravel a plot so complex that even his old adversary, Chief Inspector Swift of Scotland Yard, is perplexed.

Fine murder mystery excellently narrated

I enjoyed this but am a little disappointed with the ending. The narrator was great.

Good old fashioned detective story

This was most enjoyable, if a little predictable, but then I listen to a lot of these escapist, not-too-gory detective stories. The author is good, but gets a few of the historical details wrong and her hero is forever running his fingers through his hair at moments of deep thought, which gets a little annoying. The reader is good at accents and impressions - his upper class twit is great, as are his formidable elderly ladies. But, and it is a big but, he and the producer really ought to have gone through some of the pronunciations beforehand. Some were just ignorance, others American. For example, an English lady in 1920 would not say ‘clerk’ in the US way. Also lieutenant. Still, apart from these niggles I enjoyed the book and will listen to the rest in the series. Lennox may be a bit dim, but he loves his dog, and kitten, so he is okay in my book.

Murder in the Cotswolds

The second novel in the series. We get to know the characters better which allows for a complex plot with twists and turns. Beautifully narrated with only one niggle - American pronunciations have crept in. Major Lennox, very British, very country set, hates going abroad, just would not use the American zee or route as “rowt” etc. It was a distraction. Expect the American market demands this but it is a shame. Overall a delightful story set in the Cotswolds world of the 1920s.

Another fabulous Lennox tale.

The second installment of Lennox and Mr Fogg at a new location with more mysteries to solve, beware when listening Sam's soprano is a bit of a shrieker! Its brilliant!
