Summary

*This audiobooks includes an audio-exclusive conversation between Peter May and Peter Forbes*

THE RETURN OF FIN MACLEOD, PETER MAY'S MUCH-LOVED HERO OF THE INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLING LEWIS TRILOGY.

A MURDER

The body of eighteen-year-old TV personality Caitlin is found abandoned on a remote beach at the head of An Loch Dubh - the Black Loch - on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis. A swimmer and canoeist, it is inconceivable that she could have drowned.

A SECRET

Fin Macleod left the island ten years earlier to escape its memories. When he learns that his married son Fionnlagh had been having a clandestine affair with the dead girl and is suspected of her murder, he and Marsaili return to try and clear his name.

A RECKONING

But nothing is as it seems, and the truth of the murder lies in a past that Fin would rather forget, and a tragedy at the cages of a salmon farm on East Loch Roag, where the tense climax of the story finds its resolution.

The Black Loch takes us on a journey through family ties, hidden relationships and unforgiving landscapes, where suspense, violent revenge and revelation converge in the shadow of the Black Loch.

Riveting and atmospheric

The first three books enticed me to travel to the Outer Hebrides. On re-listening I could see the stories evolve in their settings. I am so pleased that there is this great addition to the trilogy. A riveting listen! Full marks for Peter Forbes‘ reading with his wonderful Scottish voice. Thank you.

The plot is sensationally good.

What an atmospheric and beautifully written book. The imagery surrounding the natural landscape is transformative, making the setting every bit as important as character or plot.
Reading The Black Loch really is like stepping onto the Isle of Lewis and being surrounded by nature. It’s the use of the senses that weaves such a magical environment so effectively.
The plot is sensationally good. The past reverberates through the narrative, igniting old passions and grievances so that the present events are imbued with guilt, menace and threat.

More please, two Peters at the height of their skills....

A Masterful Return to the Hebrides

Peter May's The Black Loch is a gripping and atmospheric addition to his acclaimed Lewis trilogy. This haunting tale, set on the windswept Scottish island, is a masterclass in storytelling. May's vivid descriptions of the Hebridean landscape paint a picture so vivid, it feels like you're there, standing on the windswept moors or gazing out at the churning sea.

The return of Fin Macleod, the rugged and complex protagonist, is a delight. His character development is both nuanced and powerful. The tension and suspense build steadily as he becomes embroiled in a murder investigation that threatens to tear apart his family and expose long-buried secrets.

Peter Forbes' narration is nothing short of extraordinary. His voice brings the characters to life, infusing them with depth and emotion. His Scottish accent is spot-on, adding an authentic touch to the story.

While The Black Loch may feel like a satisfying conclusion to the Lewis trilogy, I can't help but hope that May will revisit these characters in the future. There's so much more to explore in this captivating world.

This is a must-read for fans of crime fiction and those who appreciate beautifully written stories.
