About this listen

In the beginning, there was nothing but endless flatness. Then came the Carpet.... That's the old story everyone knows and loves (even if they don't really believe it). But now the Carpet is home to many different tribes and peoples, and there's a new story in the making: the story of Fray, sweeping a trail of destruction across the Carpet. The story of power-hungry mouls - and of two Munrung brothers, who set out on an adventure to end all adventures when their village is flattened.

It's a story that will come to a terrible end - if someone doesn't do something about it. If everyone doesn't do something about it.

A hilarious fantasy, co-written by Terry Pratchett, aged 17, and master storyteller Terry Pratchett, aged 43.

Brilliant fantasy story, suitable for 8 years and up. I still thoroughly enjoy it as an adult.

Superb! Fantasy under your feet.

I loved this story! Can’t find a fault in it! Funny, action packed and a general all-rounder! I have listened to it over and over again but still haven’t got bored. I preferred this even to Terry Pratchett’s Tiffany Aching Series!!!!

Honestly the most amazing story

One of my favourite Pratchett stories, you can see from his first novel how the author's style of creativity moved on to the discworld plus truckers , diggers, wings.
amazing reading by Richard Mitchley almost feels like other people are performing some characters.
Lovely characters great clever humour
especially Bane and Bricando , listened to over and over repeating my childhood.

brilliant fantasy tale about a world beneath our feet

I'm used to the tony robinson voices and pronunciation so the performance seemed a little strange to me but still very good.
This has been my favourite story since I was little, and it was amazing to hear again. Anyone and everyone should experience this book, whether reading or listening, it has so many depths its hard to do it justice in an explanation

my favorite book

I usually enjoy the children's books, this one was OK, but not, in my opinion, up there with the rest. It might have been because the names of the different 'tribes' were a bit too odd for me to remember and 'place'. Still good, but Mr Pratchett sets such a high standard that I always expect to be bowled over! This book still had its 'common sense' feel for the behaviour of the characters.

Not one of my favourites!

A fantastic listen on an 8 hour car journey! Pratchett's first book is as good now as ever! Well read by an animated reader, go unabridged and hear the entire story!

Fantastic!

Complex and detailed with fewer jokes, in fact hardly any, than later TP books. Interesting glimpse into how TP’s writing develops. Glad there are more laughs and chuckles (cackles!) in his later books which I adore and reread often. Probably won’t reread this one though ..
