About this listen

The perfect, feel-good audiobook to put a huge smile on your face!

It's not that single mum Charlotte Newman is completely and utterly obsessed with crafting, necessarily.

Sure, she has balls of wool stashed everywhere like a squirrel stores nuts and more needles than a tattoo parlour. But that doesn't mean she has a problem, right?

Finding herself between jobs, Charlotte fills her time teaching crafting skills at the local nursing home. Encouraged by how positively the residents respond, the possibility of a career doing what she adores fills her mind.

The first step towards that ambition is creating a crafting hub for the community – The Crafternoon Sewcial Club.

When a local charity announces a major knitting-themed fundraiser, Charlotte sees the ideal stage to put her new club firmly on the crafting map and drum up new members in the process.

Unfortunately, not everybody is on board with her vision for a crafting club, as it turns out. Indeed, some are even hoping to see Charlotte's dream come crashing down around her.

Still, she won't let a minor issue like that derail her plans…. To ensure victory, then, she'll need to rally her new members and ask her friends from the nursing home to get those needles clicking faster than a hummingbird's wings!

If you adore crafting, knitting, sewing, crochet while drinking tea with friends, you'll love this book!

Well written, relatable, funny and very enjoyable to listen to (especially whilst crafting myself).

Great coffee time read

I’ve listened this story whilst creating a quilt for my next grandchild.
What a great audible humour ,sincerity fun and most of all based round a woman and her love of crafting. Enjoy I did

And people think life has a crafter is easy.

As a fellow crocheter I loved this book. Can’t wait to read the next one in the series.

Make it sew

I chose this audiobook because I’m a keen crafter, knitter & quilter. This felt as if the author hadn’t bothered to do any research into the subject matter at all which was infuriating, the inaccuracies detracted from the storyline, the language was clunky and repetitive, the narrator irritated me. I could give loads of examples about the subject matter inaccuracies but I feel like I’ve wasted enough time by just listening to it, but to prove I’m not just leaving a bad review for no reason; a knitted square is never called a craft square, why would it be, people can’t just learn to knit in minutes, a ballgown isn’t something a novice sewer could attempt and could only be fitted on the person who it was intended for and the description of the quilt making could have been so much richer.

Overall poor effort

The first chapter was boring, I skipped to the second. I don't know anything about the author but something about the language was odd, it sounded like 2people had written it. Some terms were old and out dated and then other times modern terms were used; I wonder if this is a man as some of the wording women just wouldn't say. Couldn't quite get away with the audio, she read it really fast..too fast.

mixed language

Mispronunciation from the reader made it hard to listen to along with the silly story

A bit too twee for my liking and extremely unrealistic club experiences

Good story line but long winded and not as amusing as the write up suggested.

Needs editing heavily

As an older woman who always has a craft project on the go and also likes gardening I found this story boring, predictable and quite patronising.

Not what I was hoping for

The narrator is reading so fast that you’d think it was a race, why?!? You can even hear her having a bit of trouble getting enough air at some points, and the speed makes it hard to catch everything as well. No time to relax and listen, you’ll have to buckle up and really stay focused. In addition the book about crafters/crafting is, surprise, clearly written by a non-crafter. Very disappointing. Throw in some kind of desperate need to aim for hillarious and there you have it. Underwhelmed by this experience in every way.

Buckle up…

I kept listening in the high hopes that something was going to happen! It was very twee with some out of character words and odd pronunciations.

I have “crafted” for most of my life but …. I guess you had to be there …!

Boring!
